LSD May Help Cure Alcoholism, Study Says

There’s a case for legalizing marijuana for medicinal purposes, but what about LSD? A new report released Friday suggests LSD can be used to treat alcoholism.

LSD can prevent patients from relapsing during alcohol abuse treatment, researchers from Norwegian University of Science and Technology found.

“A single dose of LSD has a significant beneficial effect on alcohol misuse,” the researchers wrote.

The study was published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology.

“LSD worked in an entirely different way than any current psychiatric drugs,” Teri Krebs, researcher at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. “Many patients said they had gained a new appreciation for their alcohol problem and new motivation to address it.”

The study involved 536 alcoholics. Two-thirds of the participants were given LSD. 59 percent of those given LSD did not relapse, compared to the 38 percent of those who were not given the drug.

(snip)

LSD is a hallucinogenic drug. After receiving a dose of LSD, some participants experienced anxiety and confusion, the researchers reported.

“Overall there is a big effect, show me another treatment with results as good; we’ve missed a trick here... This is probably as good as anything we’ve got [for treating alcoholism].”

He DID try it, but it was at the time and also in the late 50’s that Mental health researchers tried LSD and Psylocibin mushrooms in research to treat mental illness. It was not found to be helpful and shortly thereafter many of the major psychotropic drugs came on the scene that were very helpful.

we now have medications that help withdrawal from alcohol that are not addictive and antidepressants that treat the very common underlying depression that leads to relapse.

It works by convincing you that your beer is actually a man-eating armadillo in a purple miniskirt.

I guess if you are convinced you are a god then that means you can overcome any problem including addiction to alcohol or drugs!

I’ve used LSD, and I’ve used alchohol, both during my younger years.

Both of these substances make it difficult for me to maintain control over myself, both mentally and physically so I no longer use either. I quit alchohol when I was 23 or so, and LSD was no longer used past about 32.

From my experiences with substances in my life I have learned that if I wanted to gain control of that situation, then I had to muster will and self control and exercise it like I meant it, and that is what I did.

I don’t even want to list the substances I’ve walked away from, because I don’t want to embarrass myself, but I will say that every last thing I quit, I quit on my own, with the help of the Lord of course, but no help group or 12 step or anything like that. I firmly believe that each of us has within us the strength and will to defeat our demons, the only question is how badly do you want to be free?

I can’t believe that this video isn’t the product of LSD.

This sounds like a repeat of the Leary-Alpert studies at Harvard before they went off the rails. They used both psilocybin and LSD. Not together, I don’t think, that “research” was performed by Kesey.

I’m the same way. I walked away from all of it and haven’t been back. Occasionally a beer sounds awfully tasty but I don’t dare.

I like to have my wits about me.

it’s called GIGO

Garbage in, garbage out.

If you gather all the official reports together, the sum of the reports seem to say it works.

But those who actually went back years later and actually analysed the experiments found major problems...they interviewed those give LSD found problems: those “cured” weren’t cured, so the reports were exaggerated. Some of those in the experiment were prisoner, who would agree to anything (it’s unethical to experiment on prisoners). Some of them were run by those who had determined the result before the experiment, so they cherry picked the results to show it works.

Isn't that like trying to ruin a good time with a good time?
