I took that to mean Newt focused too much on his work and not enough on his marriage. It makes sense. If you’re neglecting your marriage and staying long hours at work all the time, you might be tempted to have a workplace affair. Personally I think Newt is stuck in a hard place. His second wife seems like a harpy from Hades but there’s no way politically he can come out and criticize her for anything. Just the fact that she came out in the press in the ‘90s saying she’d destroy his career if he tried to be president, while they were married, shows you just how unsupportive and disrespectful she was. Like Dennis Prager says, there is nothing worse one spouse can do to the other to destroy a marriage than to publically humiliate them. He says that’s worse than adultery.
I don't want this to get into a protracted discussion of or analysis of Newt's personal life. Yes, I raised the issue here, but not so much in reference to his personal matters, but to his public explanations. If you look at my reply at #76 my take on it, which is obviously different than yours, will be more clear.
Yes, Newt is personally in a hard place, but he has some degree of culpability in his being there.
