It's a solid choice on the merits, in my opinion, and leaking it not only helps Gingrich in Alabama & Mississippi, but in Texas in a couple months. And while Perry isn't a spring chicken - he's a round 60, I think - he'll be young enough at 2020, after 8 years of service as Vice President, so run for President himself.

"[J}oy ride in a trial balloon," cool. Carl Cameron has a literary streak, not easy for a reporter on deadline.

In about a 1/2 hour, Public Policy Polling will release fresh numbers for both Alabama & Mississippi, based on polling yesterday & today.

A Gingrich-Perry ticket? Would it be another Reagan-Schweiker pick? Reagan is the only one who ever announced a V.P. ahead of time, isn’t he?

It’s a non-starter as a strategy. There’s no way at this point that Romney, Paul and Santorum would not have enough combined delegates to beat Newt’s at the convention. So if Santorum would prefer the V.P. slot under Mitt to a cabinet position under Newt, then he’d go with Mitt and Newt would lose. Newt/Santorum is also a more electable ticket in the general than an even more heavily Southern ticket. Of the big ideas Newt’s had lately, this one is the least practical. The only idea that works at this point is a Newt/Santorum or Santorum/Newt ticket.

Interesting since, to listen to all the Newtbotsa couple of months ago, Perry was a RINO no better than Obama, what with Gardasil and his positions on illegals and Muslims and vulture capitalism and what not. NOW, he’s okay to be Veep if it helps Newtie? Smells of desperation...

Perry just turned 61 on the 4th. He'll be young enough to face Biden or whatever the rats run to succeed Obama in 2016.

I hope he asks Palin.

I heard someone on Fox say Mitt will likely ask Rubio.

Palin trumps Rubio. Lord, let it be Palin.

I think the folks on Fox speculate a little too much.

“So he may be on board....”

Who is that attributed to? Carl’s omniscience?

He does this all the time. It is not reporting. It is rumor mongering.

If he had stopped a paragraph before, it would have been OK. He just cannot help himself.
