Gingrich ad: Romney ‘can’t beat Obama’ because of healthcare

Mitt Romney “can’t beat Obama” because of the similarities in their healthcare laws, Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich said in a web video Monday.

Gingrich and former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) have argued before that Romney won’t be able to draw a sharp contrast with President Obama on healthcare. The new ad, though, does not simply argue that Gingrich would be stronger on the issue, but that Romney would lose a general-election matchup.

“Two men, same plan,” the ad’s narrator says. “Republicans ran against Obamacare in 2010 and won. But how can we run against Obamacare in 2012 if Republicans have to defend Romneycare? And that’s why Mitt Romney can’t beat Obama.”

Romney appears close to locking up the Republican nomination, and Gingrich’s campaign is fighting for relevance as conservatives have gravitated toward Santorum.

Obama’s healthcare law was modeled largely on reforms that Romney signed into law as governor of Massachusetts. The Gingrich ad lists some of their common features, including a requirement that most people buy insurance as well as “big bureaucratic insurance exchanges.”

Exchanges and the mandate both started off as conservative ideas, but the mandate in particular has become anathema to the right after Obama’s healthcare law passed. Gingrich supported a mandate in the past, but he says now that he made a mistake.

The ad also shows former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty — now a Romney surrogate — lumping the two healthcare laws together under the name “Obamneycare.”

Doubts about Romney’s ability to attack Obama on healthcare are hardly confined to the fledgling Gingrich campaign. Democrats say the bruising Republican primary has effectively taken the issue off the table for Romney, despite its power with the Republican base.

Romney can’t beat Obama because he has the same position on a host of issues.

...and the fact that Romney is a sometime liberal...when he needs liberal votes...he has no core.

He will lose in November and the constitutional republic will be over...THAT’S how important this nomination is...Gingrich is the ONLY candidate that can beat the communist in the White House...Santorum will be hung with the anti-woman tag...ABCBSNBCNN are already working on that.

Gotta be Newt.

Romney can't beat Obama for the following: 1. Supported(s) Abortion 2. Supported Gay Adoption 3. Supported Gay Marriage 4. Supported the Brady Bill 5. Implemented a state-wide "Assault Weapons Ban" 6. Supports Global Warming. 7. Refused to re-instate the "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy 8. Implemented the Socialistic Healthcare Insurance plan called Romney care replete with an Individual Mandate. 9. Refused to back President Bushes Tax Plan. 10 Supported GLobal Warming. 11. Supported the Cap-N-Trade boondoggle. 12. Tripled taxes and fees while Governor of Massachusetts.

Besides those little items, he's a shoe-in!

If the GOP nominates Romney, we lose, PERIOD!

I’ll bet Obama’s Super Pacs will use those issues in the general election against Romney in specific areas to suppress the Republican vote for Myth.

The only way Romney can defeat Obama is if gas prices remain as high as they are now by elections day.

Romney can't attack Obama on any of these issues without flip flopping:
Abortion
Gun Control
Healthcare
Global Warming
Taxes
Fiscal discipline
Corruption
Job losses
Energy prices
War on Terror

More accurately, it doesn’t much matter whether Romney beats Obama because of health care and the rest of Romney’s liberal positions.
