Daniels was the director of the OMB under Bush the younger. He may talk a good talk, but his role in the Bush administration is a black mark on his fiscal record.

So why do a couple of your call Daniels “Mr. Toll Road”? A toll road system is very conservative: the user pays. It may be annoying to have to pay for something, but that is the best way to connect with the market. Otherwise, people think of things as “free” when they really aren’t.

What the Gov. is saying is simple, but most politicians are not accustomed to seeing simple facts. Budgeting itself is simple: the numbers must add up. That is the gist of it. And just look! Not even “advanced” countries can get this straight. It proves how incompetent governments generally are, and why we should not want to let these people near any important decisions of consequence. I don’t want them planning my healthcare, my retirement, my personal defense, what I have to pay for consumer goods, what car I should buy, what I can say — or anything important.

Whether or not a government is democratic does not matter so much as whether it is limited in scope and grasp. I would prefer a monarchy run by a random person, but with limited powers, to a democracy which tries to run everything.

In ancient times, Lao Tse said, “When government is lazy and dull, the people are contented. When government is efficient and smart, the people are discontented.” It shows that the Chinese had already experienced these things over 2K years ago. Modern governments not only are inefficient, but they are not even original! It’s all been seen before. It’s just that mobs which make up the electorate have no historical memory.

What he’s doing now is speaking the truth and those who say he isn’t are either ignorant or part of the planned destruction of the country.

Does 0bama give a damn?
You damn right he does!

He’s applauding this as a plan coming to fruition.

I bet I’m every bit as conservative as you are, but I, and every conservative I know, hate toll roads. whether owned privately or by the State.

Governor Perry is known as toll-road-Rick in some quarters. I am satisfied being reminded that I am paying for the roads with the gas tax amount per-gallon being posted on the gas pumps, without stopping at toll booths.

Daniels left the administration well before the increase in the deficit (which was mostly due to the TARP).

He went on to be the head exec of Indiana where he's been doing a great job during the downturn.

Most likely he will have a prominent job in the next GOP administrationn where he will be a great asset.

Well then, when that happens, we will just have to have a global currency, global fed, global taxation and global financial regulation. The elitist citizens of the world will be so disappointed...cryin’ in their champagne and martinis./s/

Spending under GWB was out of control before TARP.

Actually, if you look at the deficit levels, you'll see that his spending was not that bad.

At one point he had the deficit down a very large amount.

It was TARP that made the levels jump to a great degree. And I'm convinced that a large part of the reason the banks failed in the first place was because they saw a socialist coming, not because of Bush.

IDENTIFY the PROBLEM>

BLOW to the GALLERIES about the PROBLEM.

Do NOTHING to SOLVE the PROBLEM.

Same old $hitty ACT from another "talking head" lacking leadership ability.

I am impressed w/Daniels record as governor. And if you believe Wikipedia, much of his budget cutting proposals at OMB were overruled by congress. Still, the optics look bad from a political standpoint that he was involved w/budget decisions during the Bush Admin. Only Obama makes the drunken spending of the Bush years look not so bad.
