Maybe people, many republicans at least, are becoming more discerning and are relying less on 30 second attack ads and more on their own critical thinking.

After what we've all learned about how the media can twist facts & manipulate the public I can only say its about time.

The problem is that while one portion of the voting population becomes more sophisticated it seems the other - the left end and probably a plurality of the 'independent' demographic, is becoming even more easily led.

Possibly because he’s an exceptionally good candidate? He’s worked harder than anyone else with less money than anyone else as well. Maybe the voters who meet him face to face actually like him and like his positions?

That would be a good outcome, a Santorum/Gingrich ticket. I could get behind that. I would prefer Gingrich/Santorum but it doesn’t look like that one is in the cards.

Don't worry, the vetting of Santorum has not yet begun. If Newt backs out, you can guarantee that Team Romney will step it up to a pitch that was mild compared to what they did to Newt. They will then have all the money used to stop Newt, to use against Santorum in a focused attack. And then there is the MSM and Obama machine later.

Go ahead and deny that it will happen, and while you are at it, keep ignoring the facts about Santorum’s past. They will certainly become a major issue in the near future. Time will tell if he can overcome it. And all the personal attacks in the world, won't make it go away either.

Since Obama is not going to get any new states, if Santorum gets Florida and Pennsylvania, it’s all over for Obama.

Yep. There are 3 States, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida. Whoever carries 2 of those 3 States, inevitably wins the White House. That’s why a Santorum/Rubio ticket would almost guarantee both FL and PA in the GOP column. And, Rick might carry Ohio as well.

Newt has already indicated that if he loses, he will focus on building and organizing a movement to defeat the Establishment GOP, “good-old-boy” network. Sort of a Tea Party concept. He will also create a watch-dog group to expose the insider, secret dealings within the GOPE.

We certainly have not seen or heard the last of Newt Gingrich. That you can be sure of.
