Prosecutors said Ravi set up a webcam in his dorm room in September 2010 and captured roommate Tyler Clementi kissing another man, then tweeted about it and excitedly tried to catch Clementi in the act again two days later. A half-dozen students were believed to have seen the live video of the kissing.
In one article I read, one of the sex partners of the gay guy said he saw the camera and felt weird about it....especially, when he was leaving the dorm afterwards, he felt people were staring at him or something like that.
AT Rutgers there are NO acceptable alternatives to booting out your oversexed or homosexual roommate ~ or even leaving there yourself. They have their ways of stigmatizing people who do that.
As far as privacy laws go, this kid broke them and should face the punishment. But his punishment shouldn't be more punative because his victim was gay or killed himself.
The privacy laws should be applied equally, independent of the victim's sexuality or the victim's actions against himself.
It was Ravi’s room. He had every expectation that visitors would keep their business in their britches.
You obviously didn’t follow the trial. The prosecutor didn’t come up with a recording, nor did anyone else. That “recording” business is whole external to this trial. However, Ravi does have a good case for several charges to be made against the hitherto un-named “older male” ~ since, as it turns out Ravi can say “no, I never gave you permission to take off your clothing in my room” ~ yet, by your own admission you did. Without a recording attesting to Clementi approving of that behavior, I can see Ravi’s lawyer going after that low hanging fruit.
Who was that? Barney Frank?
If you installed a webcam on your bedroom computer and began pushing pictures of you and anyone having sex let me assure you NO ONE WOULD WATCH.
We had these guys decades back in dormitories where I lived. There was this one guy who treated his roommate, another homosexual, like a slave, and would sometimes put a spiked dog collar on the guy and they'd go to parties.
They did not like guys walking down the halls naked to the shower room.
You just never know what is going to get someone's goat.
Best bet for any straight student who shows up and finds out his roommate is gay is LEAVE ~ go turn in the key. Get outta' there. Check in a motel. A week later complain the key didn't work and you want a single room at the double, triple or six person price!
That’s NOT a recording. That’s Live TV ~ yes, it still exists.
When he captured the ‘shocking’ activity on tape - he probably snapped and wanted to show his friends how his dorm room was being used.
JMHO - he was 18 years’ old and didn’t think of the consequences. Had it been a guy and a gal - he probably would have made the same dumb decision.
I was responding to a post saying this was broadcast on the web, whereas it was not. I agree he is guilty of invasion of privacy. He may even be guilty under the “bias intimidation” law. I don’t agree with the law. If intimidation is a crime don’t limit it to any select groups.
And the really f**ked-up thing is that murderers and rapists will serve 4 years while this kid will be in for 10.
You got that right! The amusing thing about this so called hate crime. Is perverted homosexuals out homosexuals everyday. And it is not a hate crime. These outing are done under the guise of revenge or political gain. And it is ok with the perverted homosexual community. Sick perverted logic by perverts!
Gay is not normal. Gay is disgusting and perverse. This Indian-American guy had a gay roommate imposed on him and he decided to goof on him using common electronics for this age group. If the gay kid had not offed himself we never would have heard of this “invasion of privacy”. If you live in a college dorm your privacy is invaded all the time. Especially when you have boys and co-eds living in the same dorms
If gay is so wonderful then why did this kid kill himself over the video....which I agree is humiliating. But I’m sure colleges have all kinds of local heterosexual videos making the rounds
His defense team failed utterly.
In fact, all lawyers up against a case of political correctness ought to come here to FR for “moot court” before they step into the trial unarmed with the proper attitudes and research.
The kid who killed himself posted videos of himself having sex with other men, didn’t he?
