Televangelist preacher Jamal Bryant vowed to “shut down Florida” at a rally on Wednesday to demand justice for slain Miami-Dade teen Trayvon Martin.
“This is a wake-up call for the state of Florida!” Bryant said. “We are going to shut Florida down until justice weighs down!”
The Baltimore preacher and leader of the Empowerment Movement spoke at a rally at the Allen Chapel in Sanford in response to the Feb. 26 killing of the Michael Krop Senior High school student.
Black leaders are vowing to bring at least 1,000 protesters from around the country to a March 26 city council meeting if charges are not filed in the case. The protesters, he said, should bring bags of Skittles like the candy Trayvon carried when he was gunned down after a fight with a stranger.
Trayvon was visiting his father and his father’s girlfriend in a gated community when the homeowner’s association neighborhood watch volunteer spotted him and thought he looked suspicious. The two tussled and guard George Zimmerman opened fire, killing the unarmed boy.
Zimmerman claimed self defense and has not been arrested. The case was referred this week to the state attorney’s office in Sanford for review. Police Chief Bill Lee said there was no probable cause for an arrest.
Because the boy is black and Zimmerman is widely believed to be white, the teen’s family and many activists believe Trayvon was racially profiled. However, Zimmerman is Hispanic.

Yes, this was a tragedy. But if Black preachers used this clout they've been given by PC for morality this country would be transformed in a very short time. But they absolutely refuse to do it.

Hispanics, even those who are so pale as to be able to pass for white, cannot possibly be racists?
Or is it that a white killing a black is inherently racist, no matter what the cause, but non-whites may not be?
It is because they are not true servants of God but they are high priests of the heretical social liberation theology gospel.
I hope they make a big scene. When its report loudly that other guy is hispanic that ought to rock the vote a little.
I don’t know what happened, but from the fact that the kid came from an intact family, my guess is that he was not doing anything too serious at the time of the incident. He may honestly was walking alone the street.
That isn’t to say that he was an angel, but I don’t think he was a hard-core gang member either.
I’d appreciate it if anybody has information on the kid as to his personal situation.

At first the honor student and aspiring rapper just got shot out of the blue.
Zimmerman called the police to report ‘a suspicious person’. The police advised him to back off and wait for them to investigate. The teenager had gone to purchase some skittles and was only 100’ from his father’s home when he was shot dead. Zimmerman should, at the very least, have called his father for verification before arguing with the kid.
Zimmerman provoked the confrontation by his behavior, waving his gun and acting like a police wannabe.
Bingo.
But they preach and carry on just like gap-toothed snake-handling West Virginia hillbillies when they preach their "liberation theology"--and no liberal makes fun of them.
This appears to be the case. Zimmerman acted like a cop-wannabe and shot the kid, while the kid was trying to get to his father’s house.
Sounds eerily familiar to Rev. Al Sharpton before the Crown Heights riots.
My understanding is that the family is not intact. What I read previously is that the kid did not live in the gated community where the shooting occurred. He was staying there temporarily with his father because he was suspended from school. He regularly lived elsewhere with his mother who was divorced from the father.
Parents were divorced - he was visiting his father in a Florida gated community. Usually, gated communities require visitors have guest passes for security. Maybe not in this case.
He was not a gang member and had a good school record in sports and academics. His mother and father appear to have been very involved in his life and maintained a good relationship.
The police should have held Zimmerman for questioning and forensics to support his claim that he shot the teen in self defense. Just because he was some sort of sponsored vigilante is not a defense.
Gen-X’ers and Y’ers can expect this scene to get larger and more violent in the future. Thank you Stupidest Generation!
After a fight, they say he, the shooter, was still on the phone when he fired. That was part of the story yesterday, when the state attorney took over the case.
Ah, a story posted a few days ago on this suggested an intact family.
But still, the father was still involved enough to have to have his son stay with him so he could straighten out.
That’s not the makings of a career criminal. My guess is that the kid came too close to the gated yard, the guard got too jumpy about it and the kid started running towards his home.
Have you seen it reported that Zimmerman knew the father's name and phone number? I haven't.

Where are all the preachers screaming about the white 13 year old boy that was set on fire by a couple of black kids while they were screaming something like “you had it coming to you white boy” Where is the media on this?
