Obama Mangles History To Defend His Poor Record
IBD Editorials ^ | March 16, 2012 | MARK STEYN

Our lesson for today comes from George and Ira Gershwin:

"They all laughed at Christopher Columbus/When he said the world was round/They all laughed when Edison recorded sound/They all laughed at Wilbur and his brother/When they said that man could fly/They told Marconi wireless was a phony ..."

Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers sang it in the 1937 film "Shall We Dance?" Seventy-five years on, the president revived it to tap-dance around his rising gas prices and falling approval numbers.

Delivering his big speech on energy at Prince George's Community College, he insisted the American economy will be going gangbusters again just as soon as we start running it on algae and windmills.

He noted that, as with Wilbur and his brother, there were those inclined to titter: "Let me tell you something. If some of these folks were around when Columbus set sail — (Laughter) — they must have been founding members of the Flat Earth Society. Llaughter.) They would not have believed that the world was round. (Applause.)

We've heard these folks in the past. They probably would have agreed with one of the pioneers of the radio who said, 'Television won't last. It's a flash in the pan.' (Laughter.) One of Henry Ford's advisers was quoted as saying, 'The horse is here to stay, but the automobile is only a fad.' (Laughter.)"

The crowd loved it. But President Algy Solyndra wasn't done:

"There always have been folks who are the naysayers and don't believe in the future, and don't believe in trying to do things differently.

Whenever people in a room laugh and applaud at such inane b.s., it just goes to reinforce the fact that although the average IQ is 100, that number in a room full of democrats must certainly be much lower.

Why am I not the least bit surprised that the Great Obama learned his history from musicals.

Educated people even in ancient times knew the earth was round and even roughly how large.

By the time of Columbus I suspect everyone who had even the slightest education knew it.

Obama’s friend Whoopi Goldberg, whom he recently invited to the White House, insisted on national television that the Apollo 11 moon landing was a hoax.

Obama is a dunce who insists that a baby that is gasping for air after surviving an abortion isn’t “life” and his Secretary of State is married to a man who insists that oral sex isn’t sex.

DUMBOCRAPS

Yes, I’ve seen links to that effect. And after all, it’s not difficult to visualize how to estimate the radius of the earth. One need only travel a measured distance north or south of a given location, and measure the elevation of Polaris at both locations. This would be more accurate at high latitudes and at greater differences in latitudes, but it would certainly give you a good ballpark figure. It could also be done by measuring the noontime elevation of the sun at two different low latitudes on the same day.

With instruments then available it would have been easy to estimate that sailing west from Spain to China would require a voyage of over 10,000 miles. Far beyond the range of the Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria without resupply. Therefore if Columbus had been correct in his assumption that there was no land west of Spain until you got to China, he would never have been able to make the voyage. In that light it’s easy to see why the crew thought Columbus was nuts - he was.

“although the average IQ is 100, that number in a room full of democrats must certainly be much lower.”

Absolutely.

ABout a year ago, the Demonrat Governor of my state used my company’s large meeting room to announce some big government nanny program. About 150 rat sycophants were in the room. I was mercifully not invited. When they left, I stepped into the men’s room. Beneath each urinal was a puddle. These people are so stupid, they can’t even pee straight.

Born and raised in Indianaplis.

First trip to southern Florida left me quite disoriented at night; due to the star locations being shifted.

I was ready for it when I visited cancun.

Then Obama said “ we didnt back down when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor”.
Democrats write their own version of history. And since nobody in the media will contest it,it goes on unchecked.
If Newt or Rick said something so stupid, NBCCBSABC would break into prime time to report it.

A portion of one of the Usurper's speeches at a community college played on radio the other day. I noticed that Obama would say one line in an almost-seductive manner and the young skulls of mush in the audience would immediately reply in claps and shouts.

This was repeated over and over....until the whole bit became one rhythmic, almost hypnotic cadence reminiscent of the fervered, rhythmical interaction between black preachers and their congregations so often heard on local radio stations in the deep south.

There's no doubt in my mind that Obama employs this trick when speaking before certain audiences composed of unformed minds and/or uninformed minds. I'm sure he's completely aware of the tricks of the speechifying/propaganda trade which are employed by charlatans throughout history to induce almost hypnotic fervor and robotic responses in susceptible audiences.

Watch for this if you catch him speaking to a hand-picked crowd of unsophisticated ignoramuses. See him lapse into a religious-like back-and-forth with the crowd after he's got them warmed up and in the palm of his hand.

This guy is good at what he does to sell himself and his fake patent medicine cure-alls.....have no doubts about it.

When addressing more sophisticated audiences his word patterns and cadence are totally different.....and he easily and deliberately slips into clipped professor-speak.

What gets me is photos showing the zombie-like adoration on the faces of his cult-like followers in his audiences as they listen to him speak.

This is not good stuff, folks. It's alien....and chilling.

They left him. If someone was so dumb and incompetent to vote for him in 2008, they will do so again.

Except for the 4-5 sitting in the corners of it who are FULLY aware of their role to play there.
