Santorum Says He Would Enforce US Obscenity Laws That Obama Ignores By NBC's Andrew Rafferty

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL -- Rick Santorum accused President Barack Obama of not enforcing the country's obscenity laws and said Friday that as chief executive he would crack down on illegal pornography.

Santorum found himself answering pornography questions during a stop at an Italian restaurant here after the discovery of a statement posted in his campaign website in which he asserts that "America is suffering a pandemic of harm from pornography." Recent reporting has shed light on the letter in which the former Pennsylvania senator vowed to "vigorously enforce" all the country's obscenity laws, though he said the statement was posted three weeks ago.

"We actually respond to questions that we get into our campaign when they say 'What are you going to do about these issues?' And when we respond we post them up on our website. And the response is, ‘we'll enforce the law,’" said Santorum.

"I don’t know what the hubbub about that is," he said. "We have a president who is not enforcing the law, and we will."

The candidate best known for espousing family values argues on his website that pornography causes changes in the brain to both children and adults, and contributes to violence against women, prostitution and sex trafficking. "The Obama administration has turned a blind eye to those who wish to preserve our culture from the scourge of pornography," he wrote.

I didn’t find it in there.

It’s been said many times before. Marxism cannot stand on its own merits. In fact, it has none.

Marxism must always be disguised as something else. The marxist is plagued by the need to hide his ideas and to pretend he is something other than what he truly is.

The question is, why choose marxism? It doesn’t make sense either morally or logically.

It will never defeat the power of the Good Lord, who can overcome all things.

Whether a person is addicted to alcohol, cocaine or pornograph, the Lord can take it so that it is no longer a burden to you.

He’s no fool. It’s not only “The Jobs Stupid’ its also “The Culture Stupid” Every metric of a rotten culture is what gives us problems from AIDS to out of wedlock births and the filth that corrupts future generations. Just look around and see what’s going on in our schools and streets. And if you think the sea of obscenity and child pornography does not impact us one and all you live on a lonely and isolated island.

There’s no plan.

If that makes you feel better about your candidate, Gene, go for it.

Obviously millions of primary voters disagree and like the plan we see from Santorum, and I'm thinking we can't all be wrong.....

“These threads have convinced me that the collective IQ of Free Republic has dropped about 30 points since I first started posting here in 1998.” Well, maybe its time to look elsewhere for your mean postings.

And the Santorum supporters have not added one increase in IQ due to their blind support for a candidate that is not qualified for President, and tries to convince Newt supporters that they are blind and stupid. Fiscally conservative is not what defines Romney or Santorum. Try again.

There are a great many laws that are not being enforced, however, the ones that Santorum wants to focus on are only those that support his sanctimonious positions. Santorum continues to lie about Mr. Newt and continues to misstate his positions. He is no better than Romney in that respect.

Mr. Newt has made many mistakes, both personally and professionally. He admits those mistakes and has learned from them, asked God for forgiveness. Santorum continues to make excuses for his mistakes, no admission, and has certainly has not learned from them. Santorum’s own words in support of Romney is enough for me to never trust him.

I could vote for Santorum if he somehow pulls off his conservative snow job. I will hold my nose and pull the lever. However, I would like to be proud of my vote, and know that if Mr. Newt gets the nomination he could actually win the election, defeat Obama, and clean up the mess the republican establishment has created since he left office. Santorum was part of that establishment for numerous years and likes to take credit for accomplishments he should not be proud of, as well as some he just takes credit for. He is not an honest man, just an establishment crony. Yes, he has had a good marriage, and seems to be a very good husband (and sometimes I question that), but that does not make him qualified to be President.

EAGLES UP FOR MR. NEWT! VICTORY OR DEATH was the cry then, and is the cry for Newt supporters.

Let’s see, enforcing obscenity laws? I’d guess that is about number 769 on the list of important issues for American voters- right about par with dog owners cleaning up after Rover.

As far as I’m concerned, the Gingrich and Santorum supporters can be divided along the same line that divides the Conservative brands of Liberty and Statism.

I like Rick Santorum. He’s an intelligent, decent man. My issue is not with Rick per se.

Porn is disgusting but I do not like the idea of outlawing it.

If these laws are too invasive, threaten freedom of speech, then we shouldn't have these laws on the book

We have a long tradition of laws falling out of favor and simply being no longer enforced. Every jurisdiction has some, going back sometimes to previous centuries, never enforced any more but still on the books. Sure, they can be removed, but usually no one bothers.

Adult obscenity laws, like the old sumptuary laws, fall within this category. Anyone who pretends to believe that "all laws are to be enforced all the time" is living in a dream world that never existed and never will exist. It is simply stupid of them to pretend otherwise.

all the suffering, sorrow and strife associated with premarital sex, single motherhood, divorce, pedophilia and the general breakup of families.

All these things were around in abundance when pornography was scarce and hard to find, but oh well...and I bet the introduction of The Pill had nothing to do with any of it either...pornography is degrading to the community but it is not the be-all and end-all of social decay.

I wouldn't want scumbags voting for me and Rick shouldn't want them voting for him either.

Really. This is turning into a Jerry Lewis comedy. If every adult who has deliberately viewed pornography vowed to vote for someone else, Santorum couldn't get elected dogcatcher.

Laws against obscenity and child porn are among our criminal laws. They are NOT protected under the 1st A

I know that you're probably challenged in this department, but Santorum is amply able to walk and chew gum simultaneously.

And the let's-worry-about-social-isses-later folks are wearing out that lie when we learn that later will never get here.

you can't continuously serve them up low hanging fastballs and not expect the media to hit them outa the park. That's what the media does. By continuously taking the bait, Santorum does it to himself.

Bingo. Thanks for the injection of sanity into an otherwise lunatic frenzy.

You are right. This is a repetition of an age-old desire to regulate individual behavior under force of law. It waxes and wanes, never accomplishing much one way or the other. In our own history such laws were common in Britain and brought over here during the colonial era. How to behave, what to wear, etc. Some of it comical now.

I see no groundswell now for a resurgence of blue laws. This is purely a media driven fiasco fuelled by Santorum's inability to refrain from taking the bait. Note that when they asked Romney about contraception it fell flat and made George Snuffallupagous look stupid. Not so with Rick.

We are not talking about new laws, new 'prohibitions' as it were, but enforcing the laws and ending the lawlessness of the current administration

You could have said this exact statement any time during the eight years of the W administration. Why didn't you?

your use of the leftist catch phrase "legislating morality." American law is based on "legislating morality" (I won't return your silly insult about ignorance of history).

Well sorry about this but history shows that the phrase "legislating morality" was used fifty years ago by Southern segregationists in opposition to civil rights laws for Black Americans. Some "leftist" movement Orville Faubus and George Wallace had going there.

[ Molesting kids on camera is not something for government to stop? ]

Stop it, hell at every airport the Government via the TSA is ACTIVELY engaging in it in front of the Children’s parents and the parents cannot do a damned thing about it or they will be arrested on the spot....

We don’t live in America anymore....

We will be the America forever remembered as the Generation who lost freedom and helped via our inaction to usher in World Wide Tyranny....

And it is our own damned fault for being silent and disinterested so long as a people....
