An attempt to rob a Fullerton jewelry store failed dramatically Friday when the shop owner shot one of the intruders and police quickly captured four suspects who fled in a minivan, swapped cars around the corner, then crashed a few blocks away.

The man shot at the scene, identified as 23-year-old Nelvin Cook of Los Angeles, was taken by ambulance to UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange for treatment of gunshot wounds, said Fullerton Police Cpl. Tim Kandler. Cook was reported to be in critical condition.

Three other men who fled All Phases Jewelers after the shooting jumped into a Ford minivan, where a waiting driver took them around the corner and they all switched to a Chevy Tahoe, Kandler said. The SUV crashed into a parked car less than half a mile from the store, sending the four occupants running in different directions. All were quickly apprehended

They were identified as Devon Ridge, 22, of Compton; Obiesie Enwezor, 18, and Jayson Coleman, 20, both of Los Angeles; and Randolph Long, 21, of Houston.

Wish I could have seen them cartwheel end over end, into a tree...

Seems these Compton boys brought the whole neighborhood with them, then picked the wrong town, wrong guy to rob.

And looks like they brought one of their Houston associates with them. He'll love life in a CA joint.

Shot multiple times?

Oh, too bad..I hope it doesn't hurt much.

Google search for images for perp names showed only for two of the four. Those were blacks. Looks like the 12%ers are outperforming the whites again.

Being a Jeweler is one of the reasons that makes it much easier to get a concealed carry permit. Lawyer is another In many areas, it is almost automatic if you pass the background check and classes.

Of course, that ticks me off and puts them in special classes whereas regular Joe’s can’t protect themselves as easily.

This occurred in a retail store. All biz owners are allowed to have FA’s in their stores.

Actually, in California, no permit is required if in one’s own business or home. The law requires a permit in cars and on the street, however.

My standard boilerplate I post whenever comments at those news sites are allowed:

“I will lay money that when the perp’s background is investigated, like his buddies:

1) He has a record as long as your arm

2) He was out on parole

3) He was out early because of “good behavior” - or “he found Jesus”

4) The crime he was jailed for was plea-bargained down from a more serious charge

5) All of the above

Until the media starts printing the names of these lenient judges and parole board members who routinely recycle these people back into society, the citizens will have to do the Judicial System’s dirty laundry in order to protect themselves. Far too long they have operated in the shadows and are not held responsible for their errors in judgment or in the flawed agenda they espouse.”

So far, only one site in Illinois pulled it.

Most people that commit armed robbery do have records etc...It’s nothing new.

But I agree, some judges are some of the most arrogant, overpaid AH’s I’ve ever seen. And regarding the parole people, when hired they are more concerned with how many college units they have, than common sense or street experience.

BTW, CA has 3 strikes. Any of these losers with 2, on parole etc, are basically done. No death penalty, but the fact is CA has some of the most strict criminal penalties in the entire country.

Right, it was just a comment about CCW rather than this particular case. My Sister in Law and parents were jewelers, we always had guns at our store.

Just checked Nelvin’s Facebook page, guess what, wonder of wonders, he’s one of “Holder’s People.” Imagine that! Lives in the $hithole of Compton! Anyone want to bet on the lineage of the other three?
