What's most troubling about Afghanistan is that we should have pulled out when we won that war. Which was about 6 months or less after we got there.
Nation-builidng is not our strong suit, and the last 10 years prove that. You want to re-build Afghanistan, take any 2 rocks and pile them on top of a third rock. You have now restored Afghanistan to where it was when the Soviet Union invaded.
No matter when we leave that place, we will end up going back there to shoot at people as long as they remain muslims. It's just the way it is.
We just haven't learned it yet. Ever wonder how osamma lived in pakkystan for so long with out a problem? He paid a high rent.
I read your and Altura’s post about this mess overseas and count me in.
Afghanistan ain’t gonna be rebuilt, much less with America’s lack of resolve and the politicization of every war.
I’m weary of it and think we should get out.
We SHOULD have won the war, period, put that third rock back on top of the bottom two rocks, told the children to play nice, that we’d be watching, and left them.
Iraq....almost, not quite, but almost same thing.
time for the Iraqis to take control. America just needs to keep stern eyeball on it all but let them live how they want.
It sure is looking that way, Bernard. The increasingly restrictive ROE’s in Afghanistan (part of the winning hearts and minds strategy) seems to have only undermined OUR troops. I’m not sure we have made much progress in setting up the Afghan army and govt to take over once we leave. They seem worthless.
