First Line: Staff Sgt. Robert Bales, the Army soldier who is set to be charged in the mass murder
While I have no doubt there will be charges, the title is a bit misleading. I am not a JAG officer, but I believe there is a little technicality known as an Article 32 hearing. Here is why it matters:
No charge or specification may be referred to a general court-martial for trial until a through and impartial investigation of all the matters set forth therein has been made. This investigation shall include inquiry as to the truth of the matter set forth in the charges, consideration of the form of charges, and recommendation as to the disposition which should be made of the case in the interest of justice and discipline.IOW, no charges until an Article 32 has been conducted. The Article 32 will no doubt take weeks.
Axelrod will bury this until after the election because they don’t want issues like Fort Hood and troop morale to be in the news.
