Rick Santorum’s camp hits Mitt Romney on Bain tenure

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum’s campaign is taking aim at rival Mitt Romney’s tenure at the helm of Bain Capital.....

[SNIP]

Back in January, when Perry and Gingrich were hitting the former Massachusetts governor hard on his Bain tenure, Santorum had told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, “I hate to sit here and be a defender of Mitt Romney, but to me this is federal capitalism, and I have to say that this is an attack probably not warranted.”

“Bain Capital, at least from the record I looked at, had a lot of success,” Santorum said at the time. “I mean they weren’t a company that has a long track of record basically destroying the companies and selling off the pieces. They had some situations where they had failures but every company does.”

Thank you, Mariner. That is an important acknowledgment.

I am in full agreement that candidates need to be vetted. One of the biggest positives of Gingrich is that he's a known commodity. He's been in the public eye for so long that we can be fairly sure that what we see is what we get.

Regarding Santorum, he's not had national attention for as long as Gingrich, but he's been the personal focus of vicious hatred from the homosexual community for a long time, and less vicious but still strong hatred from pro-abortionists and more ordinary feminist and anti-Christian groups. There may be surprises out there about Santorum’s political views or something else, but there won't be moral surprises.

On morality issues, if there were a skeleton out there, we'd all have known long ago back when Santorum was still a U.S. Senator. We can be very sure the vilest sorts of left-wingers have been digging around for skeletons since the 1990s, and if they haven't been found by that highly motivated group of haters, they aren't there to be found.

We never know for sure, but if there is a hidden bimbo, we should know soon

Given events of the last six months, I would say the odds of Santorum being accused of having an affair with some skank in the Chicago area are way better than chance. She will probably remain anonymous, and disappear once the damage is done.

Perry and Newt are for amnesty and not just for grandmothers. .....

You are flat out wrong on that but you have decided you need to return to it in some sick way

"Today Rick said he "doesn't care about the unemployemnt rate."

I'd sure like to see a link to that article.

Surely NOBODY is that stupid. Nobody.

I have promised today I would start backing off flaming Newt. Don’t tempt me.

Relax. Do whatever floats your boat. Nobody really cares.

They should have a new road sign: "Watch for bleeding deacons"-- whenever in danger of being accosted and sermonized by sanctimonious self righteous puritanical a--holes.

It is another thread right here on FR. From Reuters. The final line says, (ahem) "Santorum seeks to clarify statements to the media" or something similar. Like we haven't heard that one before.

I think you’ll find that Santorum’s scandals are more in the financial line. I think that incident where he defrauded a local school district to get free district-paid on-line “home schooling” for his kids while he was a resident of another state, and then let the State of PA pay the $50,000 fine is going to come up again, and I also think it’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Heck, he was up to his eyebrows in the K Street project (getting fat lobbyist jobs for GOP congress critters) and I am sure you will find a lot of odd financial goings on in his career as a lawyer, particularly considering some of the entities for which he worked.

He’s a dishonest person who always shades the truth because even when it’s not something illegal, the unshaded truth would be unflattering and not part of the image he wants to project (humble little Ricky, pure as the driven snow, just ascending the steps to the pulpit bathed in light...come to think of it, didn’t Obama use that approach too?).

I think it’s unlikely that he’ll be the nominee, but if he is, you can expect a revelation a day about his financial and career activities.

The only thing that puzzles me is why Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter and all the other “conservative pundits” have not run forward to scream that Santorum is “attacking capitalism,” the way they did when Gingrich brought up Bain Capital.

There are legitimate questions about Bain’s business and business practices in contrast to what Romney deceptively claimed they were, and Bain Capital is now an enormously influential company that somehow, at the same time, manages to maintain a rather low profile and deserves more attention if Romney is claiming it as part of his vaunted experience.

I never saw how Rush and the rest could regard questions about Bain as an attack on capitalism. IIRC, it was Rush who started the meme in one of his irrational rants, and the others (who hated Gingrich and were just looking for an issue) picked it up and suddenly Romney was an innocent victim. Let’s see if they do the same this time around...I doubt it, because Santorum is just as establishment as Romney, and thus he’s no threat to them and doesn’t need to be destroyed.

I am not interested anymore in participating in trashing the people that are left.

None of them are perfect.

Sad for you that most of the voters that have voted disagree with you.

Just the way it is.

Well, you may not be interested in it, but believe me, the Dems are.

At least be honest about St Rick. He himself is not, and this is going to come back to bite him.

If you haven’t noticed, which I can tell you haven’t.

There is not one candidate in this race that the dems wouldn’t go after.

Some of our candidates may have baggage going back awhile that the dems will exploit, others have more current things.

No use helping them out.

Santorum has a small chance yet. Newt does not, unless he could win 75% of the delegates left. Ain’t going to happen.

So whats the point?

Bain Capital is not the Capitalism that majority of Americans believes including a majority of conservatives

If you can show proof that Bain took taxpayer money, or used political connections to disadvantage a competitor, I'll listen and pay attention.

If not, I suggest you put a lid on it. Newt's biggest mistake was attacking Romney from the left on this issue and now it appears that Santorum may be emulating him.

There are a lot of reasons not to vote for Romney, but as far as I can tell, Bain is not one of them.

YOU are too kind.

Santorum is in trouble and his supporters need to kick Newt around to explain it.

Thankfully, Newt will remain a historic figure, and Rickster, well Rickster will have a job back with the RINO’s, to whom he is indebted and back where he can continue to ingratiate for a living.

Newt has a life, and politically will still be the ONE with the goods.

His enemies are ours. Rick and Romney are seen endlessly courting them. ‘Nuff said.

Well, maybe I am too kind. Worse can be said about a person. right? LOL. My question will always be: Why can’t more people see that Rick can’t win the general election? Why do not more people see Mitt Romney as the one the current Admin. has been rooting for and planning for. Why can do they fall so easily for the negative advertising? Why Rita? Why?

” Why?.....”

IMHO, we now have a socialist population by nearly half, having come up through “public education”, and the other half split between outright Marxists and the Jersey Shore voters. Sprinkled in among the first half are a few conservative patriots of worth.

Hmmm, is it any better in Oklahoma? I live in Wichita Falls, Texas now, and it seems better here. Just moved from the metroplex last year.

The Santorums “defrauded” their local district. Right. They have dual residences due to the nature of his jobs. They followed the existing law, which allowed home school reimbursement. No Democrat would ever have been called on this. It was a joke.
