Wife of Staff Sgt. Robert Bales' (releases) statement
KiroTV ^ | 19 Mar 12 | Karilyn Bales

Posted on 03/19/2012 4:15:37 PM PDT by xzins

Karilyn Bales, whose husband, Staff Sgt. Robert Bales is accused of killing Afghan civilians, released this statement on Monday:

What happened on the night of March 11 in Kandahar Province was a terrible and heartbreaking tragedy.

My family including my and Bob’s extended families are all profoundly sad. We extend our condolences to all the people of the Panjawai District, our hearts go out to all of them, especially to the parents, brothers, sisters and grandparents of the children who perished.

I know that all good people around the world, regardless of nationality, religion or political values, join me in grieving that such a terrible thing could happen.

Our family has little information beyond what we read and see in the media. What has been reported is completely out of character of the man I know and admire. Please respect me when I say I cannot shed any light on what happened that night, so please do not ask.

I too want to know what happened. I want to know how this could be.

I have no indication that my family’s own safety is at risk, but I appreciate the efforts that have been undertaken to protect us. I hope there will soon be no reason for protection of families, whether here or in Kandahar Province, or anywhere, because the pain inevitably inflicted in war should never be an excuse to inflict yet more pain. The cycle must be broken. We must find peace.

I know the media has a right to pursue and report news. As you do your jobs, I plead with you to respect the trauma that I and my extended family are experiencing. Please allow us some peace and time as we try to make sense of something that makes no sense at all.

All I can do now is emphasize my sadness and my condolences to the families in Panjawai for their terrible loss. The victims and their families are all in my prayers, as is my husband who I love very much.

End of Statement

Meanwhile, considering how the accused, when he straggled back on to base, surrendered, refused to answer questions & “lawyered up,” am somewhat skeptical of the psycho defense.

And how do you know this? Seriously?

Do you even have a clue? I am a friend of the Bales. The most important thing we are telling people is:

The facts are NOT out. Please wait. Even the army hasn't stated what they know; to do so would be a violation of the UCMJ for the commanders on up.

There will surely be a serious investigation. Until then, do understand that not one thing you've cited are facts but rather here-say talk from unanimous sources propagated by the Dear Leader's liberal friends in media. They are desperately trying to ensure that no one points a single finger of blame at Obama, and certainly that the sheep doesn't question him.

At this moment, we haven't even been offically told that Bob has done ANYTHING.

Also, now we learn he had a $1.4 million dollar judgement against him just before he enlisted.

Would that be his first enlistment or a subsequent enlistment?

Well said, xzins.

KB, if I recall correctly has a habit of ignoring the presumption of innocence so I'd think it if a mental disorder is involved he'd ignore that also.

“So, I would also lawyer up right away. I would NEVER talk to CID. Ever. Or write or sign any statement. I would never advise any soldier to do so.”

The question is whether a soldier who is in the midst of suffering “adult onset psychosis” (your term) would be able to act in such a logical manner. That dog don’t hunt with this guy.

First one.

BTW, the man who he bilked says he never saw a penny of the $1.4 million.

“And how do you know this? Seriously?”

I would throw the question right back at you. According to Bales’ wife, she knows only what has been reported in the media - elements of which I mentioned. How is it you know more than the spouse?

WTF with the ‘protection’?

Bush opened the door to moslems coming into this country. During "war" time. Obama IS a moslem.

That being said, the bad guys brought a couple of assassins into Iraq to get my nephew. That these people face a risk is not a question in my mind.

Of course a guy who thinks he’s a delta operative would think to lawyer up. It’s part of the play that’s being enacted. But, that’s another discussion.

We don’t really have any idea what the circumstances were. We don’t know that “lawyered up” is an accurate description.

During the aftermath of Haditha EVERYTHING that was said had happened was eventually turned on its head. Initial sensationalism proved to be nothing like the truth.

That is an excellent, thoughtful, well-written statement from Mrs. Bales.

U.S. government

A spokesman for the Defense Department called the shooting an "isolated and tragic case",[104] and Defense Secretary Robert Gates pledged that his department would do "everything in its power to help the Fort Hood community get through these difficult times."[105] The chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Carl Levin, and numerous politicians, expressed condolences to the victims and their families.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano stated "we object to—and do not believe—that anti-Muslim sentiment should emanate from this ... This was an individual who does not, obviously, represent the Muslim faith."[108] Chief of Staff Gen. George W. Casey, Jr. said "I'm concerned that this increased speculation could cause a backlash against some of our Muslim soldiers ... Our diversity, not only in our Army, but in our country, is a strength. And as horrific as this tragedy was, if our diversity becomes a casualty, I think that’s worse."[109]

Thank you for your service, xzins, and for what you wrote.

During WWII and Korea, my mother held things together so well, and built from there, that when Daddy returned from the war, every aspect of their lives was greatly improved. They’re gone now, but the fruit of their labor and love lives on. My brothers and I feel so blessed that the Lord chose us to be their children.

My heartfelt prayers go out for the Bales family.

Reading the transcripts of the 60 Minutes interview with Wuterich eliminated any presumption of innocence in my mind. His pleading guilty to negligent dereliction of duty should do the same for you.

That's it? That's all you got?

I basically already said THAT. We. do. not. know. what. happened.

Apparently, you do. Or am I wrong?

Except, you're willing to believe what ever the Friends of Barack say.

Look, seriously, I really don't care about you or your opinion, but for the sake of being a FReeper, which means you're not part of the knee-jerk liberal side of things, get a grip. Wait for the truth to come out. You'll eventually get it on this web site. Then, if what you say is the truth, I'll join your caterwauling, ok?
