Future state workers would say goodbye to the prospect of getting paid more than Gov. Jerry Brown under legislation pushed by a Republican state senator.
Senate Bill 1368, by Sen. Joel Anderson, would set the top salary available to state workers and officers at the $173,987 annual paycheck currently approved for the state's top executive.
"Salaries should be tied to the actual duties and responsibilities of the position," the Alpine Republican said in a statement. "Only highly paid bureaucrats can rationalize why their responsibilities are of greater importance than the Governor of a state with 38 million citizens."
The cap would include overtime pay, but would not affect compensation levels set by the state constitution or pay packages in contracts approved ahead of January 1, 2013.

Just an excuse to get Governor Moonbeam a pay raise.

Never happen. The role of politicos is to get their buddies cushy, high paying jobs.
Wonder why Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are always packed with Raines, Emmanuel, Gorelick, Johnson, etc!
If it’s Brown, flush it down.
Ha! That’s brilliant.
Cute response. Not, of course, germane to the topic. But cute nonetheless.
What do you think about the proposal?

It will be interesting to see the caterwauling then eh? I mean, really. How do you justify making more than the CEO?
Every decent CEO I’ve ever known hoped his salespeople made more than he did.
Not that that’s applicable to a govenmental body, but still.
What percentage of the workforce is sales?
It should be capped at Arnold’s salary.( He took no salary)
Very small. They bring in practically all the business, though, so if.they’re pulling down more in commission than the CEO’s compensation, that’s a good thing.
Some try to cap their best performers, but it’s self defeating.
Capping govermental salaries to that of the governor is a start in the public sector. I’d go further than that and disallow compensation and benefits, including retirement, that exceeds the private sector for comparable work.
What total horses#!t!
Cap the pension at a percentage of what they earned over the entirety of their career; don’t allow special circumstances if a firefighter or police wants to retire on “benefits”, don’t allow a final year new higher paid position poison the historical wage levels

Then why would you post what you did? I mean, your point about salesmen is a serious non sequitur, right?
While I’m dreaming, I actually can envision a situation wherein I’d support commission with no caps in the public sector.
Create an agency with complete authority to perform forensic accounting, and pay agents a commission based upon every instance of featherbedding, waste, fraud and cronyism that is ferreted out and eliminated.
They would be worth every penny. The agency would be self funding, expanding and contracting as conditions warrant.
You compared the governor to a CEO, and said that no one should make more than the CEO.
When was the last time a pubbie introduced bill in Kalifornia got passed?
Somehow this will be called racist.
