Chicago Sun Times ^

Mitt Romney tamed Illinois on Election Day.

In easily defeating social conservative Rick Santorum, Romney smoothed his path to the Republican presidential nomination and answered, at least for now, the burning political question of just what defines the Republican brand in Illinois.

Is there no place left for Conservatives? I'm from Illinois, and this GOP Moderate crap is what has helped usher in the most corrupt bunch of politicians in the nation. Very liberal Democrats and their moderate enablers. This is just sickening.

What defines the Republican brand in Illinois?

The term that comes to mind is... “Permanent Minority.”

Like it or not, Illinois is the left coast of the midwest. I guess you can thank Chicago for it more than anything. There have been big changes all around you. Not beating you up for it, just pointing it out.

The brand for the Illinois GOP is SPAM!.
* Nobody really wants it.
* Nobody is sure what it is.
* You only tolerate it at the table when there is no alternative.
* The more you know about what is in it the more you want to puke.
* It is the standard punchline of jokes around the world.
* If you bring it to a party nobody will invite you back.

What are the “big changes” all around me? Romney won almost all the areas in Illinois where big media markets exist. What does that tell you? Also, GOP voters in the 16th District chose a RINO pretty boy with a conservative rating around 60% (Kinzinger), over a 10 term conservative stalwart. (Manzullo). The entire Kinzinger fan base just kept saying, “Adam is the Future”. Great a future with a RINO who votes conservative 60% of the time instead of 90% of the time.

GOP voters in the Chicagoland area are complete pro-abortion moderates. It’s a pathetic bunch. They are so myopically focused on how much there gas is going to cost and how soon they can get the new boat and new car and dress their 2 trophy kids nicely, all they want is a “good economy” that will help them get more stuff and feel good. Meanwhile the Democrats keep the boot on the neck.

I'm talking about the shifting winds in surrounding states. Romney only managed to pull off a tie in Michigan, a 1 point win in Ohio. Illinois is the big blue thumb sticking out amid all the state governments that made a hard right turn in 2010.

I agree. The fact is, Mitt only won by 12% in Illinois, and once again he carpet bombed with ads. The MSM and Republican Media are trying to spin it today to make it look like winning Illinois is some big springboard to the nomination.

10 to 1 Romney pumped money into that campaign. If this guy gets the nomination conservatives are going on the Bain block. Romney has been tuthless in his destruction of his opponents and in doing so where there should be high turnout primaries in Illinois case its been the lowest in 70 years.

One Romney surrogate talkshow host (Sykes) in WI hammered Cain for weeks until Cain quit. In Ohio the same thing happened they hammered Santorum (Cunnimgham) calling him Archbishop, Boortz was just about as bad on Santorum .

In Illinois Don Wade was estatic over the result. The only guy he had on during the US Senate race was Kirk while WIND started out with a bang it has ended with a whimper. Mark my words about Romney once he secures the nomination his VP choice will be another RINO as well as most of his cabinet.
