Was Florida shooter a vigilante or diligent neighbor?
AP via Washington Times ^ | M>arch 22, 2012 | Mike Schneider

George Zimmerman once took criminal justice classes at the community college and was practically a one-man neighborhood watch in his gated part of town, calling police close to 50 times over the past eight years to report such things as slow-driving vehicles, strangers loitering in the neighborhood and open garages.

Also, if Martin was being “stalked” by Zimmerman, why didn’t MARTIN call 911 on his cell phone, instead of jumping on Zimmerman, pounding on him with his hands and apparently with a bottle of iced tea, wrestling him to the ground and threatening to kill him with his own gun?

Apparently a witness said Zimmerman was walking away from Martin, when Martin attacked him. We need to get all the facts, but from what is availble now, it seems that Martin started the violence.

So let me get this straight? If I approach someone and say, “What are you doing here?” he has the legal right to begin brutally beating me with a bottle and can threaten to kill me, and I have no right to defend myself in any way?

Wow!

Watch video of crime scene and interview with eye witness John, by an actual news reporter, not a blogger in his underpants. If you haven't seen this video, you are uninformed on this subject.

He was visiting his dad, supposedly while on a 5 day suspension for being involved in a fight at school. In your more abusive districts (like this one we live in) they give out 5 day suspensions to folks who are clearly victims but who fought back. They'll give you 2 to 3 days for simply having seen the event.

He was a minor, so, yeah, "neighborhood kid".

I'm having some difficulty getting my mind around the fact this very long term Neighborhood Watch guy didn't know the address where he was located. This development isn't all that big!

Then, he says 111 ~ and that address is NEARBY but not within the bounds of this development. At the moment I'm inclined to think Zimmerman may have been following this guy all the way back from the 7-11? (or other convenience store nearby). Does not look good at all!

And regarding the use of the word thug, “Thug is as thug does.” If the story happened the way Zimmerman and the one witness we know of, and the injuries to Zimmerman indicate it did, Martin acted thuggishly and is therefore a thug.

At any rate my scenario was hypothetical and yes, anyone who would attack another person violently in response to merely being verbally quetioned is a 100% thug.

Regardless of whether Zimmerman was within his rights to shoot at Martin, Zimmerman is screwed.
There is so much attention, marches, etc. that he will be found guilty .

The title claims that Martin was on top of Zimmerman when Zimmerman shot him. The article makes no such claim.

So, where's all the blood?

You see what the problem is when you don't have sworn testimony. Questions get asked and the information provided by the police fails to provide the answers.

We need a trial ~

If you go around hunting people they might fight back.

Again with the specious "hunting" claim. And an apples and oranges comparison to boot.

Whoraldo Rivera.... Is that you?

He has the right to totally ignore you, and if you get too close and belligerent he has the right to stand his ground and go on about his business. If you lunge at him, or move too fast, or swear at him, I suppose he could beat you to a pulp if need be.

This is the Florida law. It applies to all situations, not just those where one of the parties has a firearm.

GREAT article. I am shocked at how many FReepers are completely ignoring the FACTS and instead embracing the left-wing race baiters propaganda and repeating it.

There needs to be a thorough investigation, but the EVIDENCE (not the media lies and spin, but the EVIDENCE) we have so far seems to indicate that the shooting was justified.

It WAS investigated - by the police. The police didn’t make an arrest. Probably because they felt a crime had not been committed.

What’s happening here is the press and black leaders (in spite of both men being Hispanic) are acting as vigilantes - and taking ‘justice’ into their own hands.

Normally the MSM would look down on vigilantes - but when the vigilantes are on the left - well, that’s different. Why it’s different we don’t know - could be bias, one sided reporting, picking favorites, that they hate us... who knows?

Here’s a link to ‘journalists’ taking about how cool they are and how dreadful we are - when they don’t know a conservative is in the room - taping.

I sure hope not. He needs to be found guilty by the evidence alone. If the jury finds him innocent of the charges, then, oh well, let the riots begin. I will not be worried about that, because I will not be one of those responsible for opening that can of worms.

Oh, yeah, he probably has the right to bash you with his bag of Skittles. That's all he had handy, well, that and a can of tea in his pocket, and his cellphone ~ which is missing. That wasn't on the police report.

Zimmerman reports he had "something in his hand" ~ bag of Skittles perhaps?

Obviously Skittles don't do the job.

Your story title is not supported by the text of the story. We all tend to shy away from those come-ons. I’ve already seen the witness. Now, let’s see his face and let’s see his sworn testimony.

"He was a minor, so, yeah, "neighborhood kid".

He did not live there. If I go visit the fiance of my father, I am not a neighborhood guy. I am a visitor. Possibly even a stranger, if those visits are not regular in nature.

"I'm having some difficulty getting my mind around the fact this very long term Neighborhood Watch guy didn't know the address where he was located."

You may have an even harder time after being beaten in the face like Zimmerman was. I'd imagine it can be somewhat disorienting.

The cops sometimes act like there was no crime. Had that happen after a guy broke in my apartment years ago and stole jewelry and a can of food. He bent a steel door to get in.

They didn't even want to take fingerprints.

After some time I was able to find he was a police informant.

Before we could get anything done he'd killed a couple of people in Falls Church VA.

So, whatever the cops say ~ it's probably BS.
