Florida lawmakers call for arrest in Trayvon Martin shooting case

Two House Democrats called for an arrest in the death of Florida teen Trayvon Martin, who was shot in February by George Zimmerman while returning from a convenience store to his home.

Yesterday and this morning Florida Reps. Frederica Wilson (D) and Corrine Brown (D) spoke out against Zimmerman's actions.

"Mr. Speaker, I am tired of burying young black boys," Wilson said on the floor Tuesday. "I am tired of watching them suffer at the hands of those who fear them and despise them."

"I want a thorough investigation," Brown said on CNN Wednesday morning. "Personally, I would have liked to have seen him arrested, and at least he will not have a permit to carry a gun and have a gun on him as we speak."

Zimmerman has said he shot Martin in self-defense, but many in the Miami area and across the nation are calling for Zimmerman's arrest, now 25 days after the shooting. Martin's parents appeared on NBC's "Today Show" to call for his arrest.

Wilson took to the floor on Wednesday morning and said she would appear on the floor every day the House is in session until an arrest is made.

"Every day, every day, I will come to this floor and announce to America how long justice for Trayvon Martin has been delayed," she said. While Wilson did not call specifically for Zimmerman's arrest, she said the "evidence is overwhelming" and that an arrest should be made.

Wilson also took a shot at the grand jury that has been formed to examine the evidence.

"The grand jury has been selected, and the grand jury is not reflective of Trayvon's family nor Trayvon. That must be corrected immediately."

Brown followed Wilson and called the situation "unacceptable," saying Martin was tested for drugs and alcohol, but not Zimmerman. Brown called for an independent review of how Florida police have handled the case so far.

"Leftists like dead bodies. They are handy political objects."

And they vote Democrat too!

The police chief just stepped down temporarily because he said he has become a distraction.

Maybe he can talk 0bama into stepping down.

>>>Chris Smith, a black Florida state senator, announced on Wednesday he is drafting new legislation to “drastically” change that law, which he said has increased deaths in the state due to “self-defense” by more than 250 percent. <<<

Sure, we can’t have the violent thugs having guns turned on them by law abiding citizens defending themselves. We need to keep violent crime safe, and practically legal. /sarc

Does he realize what he is saying? He is saying that he’d prefer that the innocent victims (or would be victims) who defended themselves be dead rather than the violent thugs who attacked them.

But but but, Trayvon’s cell phone was left laying on the ground and nobody picked it up and called him mom, instead Zimmerman just went home. /barf

First this law, then a call for more gun control, all manipulated by the Democrats and their slaves in the media. You can count on it.

Yahoo even came up with a new racial category, "white Hispanic" to describe Zimmerman-- gotta work the "white" in there some how.

And I’m really tired of cases being tried in the media! So much for innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. I hope whomever is handling this case has the internal fortitude to do what existing laws in the state of Florida require and not bow to pressure from lawmakers, drive-by media, racers and anyone else who thinks their two cents matters.

I’d fire Shep Smith for the report he gave if I were his employer.

It wasn’t a report, it was a fictional drama story.

“the grand jury is not reflective of Trayvon’s family nor Trayvon. That must be corrected immediately”

I’m sure a Federal Grand Jury convened by Holder would be over represented.

Florida is a convenient site for this to play out. Gee what political event is coming up in Florida that the marxists would like to target?

Also interesting that this happened better than 20 days ago I believe and only now has become a national issue.

I saw that this morning as well and about spit my diet coke out all over my keyboard. I thought as compared to what...a black latino, a brown latino, a dark brown latino, a light brown latino, an native latino, a mixed latino etc etc etc.
Anything to demonize the white populace and to make sure a
minority is the victim.

Good point.

I saw this for the first time the other day in a doctors office on CNN.

Even the nurses behind the counter could not get over the obvious bias and race baiting that was being portrayed.

We’re being set up big time.

Soon 0bama will be lecturing us that this is a teachable moment. It is already bad enough for the FBI and DOJ to be involved. Now we have state lawmakers trying to indicate that the law is not valid if blacks are killed as a result of the law they passed.

Sometimes I am sort of glad that my folks passed on and have not had to see so much of the insanity that prevails lately.

Wasn’t there a witness who said that the guy fired his weapon while he was on his back being beaten by the kid who was on top of him?

My God, this moron doesn't get that grand juries AREN'T supposed to be "reflective" of a particular demographic or interest group. Making it "reflective" would open it to biased decisions.
