Virginia middle school teacher had students do 'opposition research' on GOP candidates

A Virginia middle school teacher is under fire after making his students do "opposition research" on Republican presidential candidates, according to a report.

Eighth-graders at Liberty Middle School in Fairfax County were assigned to research the backgrounds and positions of Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul and find any “weaknesses,” according to The Daily Caller.

The students were then required to draft a strategy paper, mapping out how to exploit those weaknesses and then research how to forward it to the Obama campaign.

“This assignment was just creepy beyond belief -- like something out of East Germany during the Cold War,” a father of one of the students who asked for anonymity told The Daily Caller.

The teacher, Michael Denman, gave the assignment to his Civics honors class, which he broke up into four groups, with each one assigned a GOP candidate to investigate.

My problem with this manipulation, is that it doesn't occur in a vacuum. Raising young skulls full of mush is difficult enough in our main stream media/pop “culture” dominated world, and crap like this “educator” pulled can not be permitted...

I think that the rationale behind the action of making this assignment is to provide a test case, with the object of the test being the eventual implementation in schools across the country. If there is little public outcry to this test case, this story will begin to repeat itself nationwide as just the next lurching step against our children by the socialist hate machine.

As a result, I will be calling or faxing the numbers you furninshed. All day. I’ve also just forwarded them to my entire “conservative friends” email list.

I suggest we all join in.

Chilling. I wouldn’t object so strongly if the students had been given to option to choose either a GOP candidate or Obama. It would still be a questionable assignment, but at least it would give the students a choice. I’m reminded of a history prof I had as an undergrad. Most of the department profs were cool as heck, but this lady was a tenured communist. Seriously, she once bragged about marching with the Sandinistas in protest of the Reagan administration policies in Nicaragua. I would have dropped the class had I not needed it for a department minor.

At any rate, one of the potential essay questions for the final exam was to write an essay about why the U.S. decision to drop the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was wrong. A bunch of us raised cain over it. I would probably would have accepted an essay prompt that allowed me to argue for OR against that decision, but no way was I going to write a BS essay totally against what I believed was a correct decision. The prof eventually backed down, and we saw neither hide nor hair of the question when the final exam was given.

Here is a link to the VA DOE Board of Directors. Dave Foster the President is a really good guy. Address your letters and communications to him.

This upsets everyone? Remember when VA managed to remove the conservatives from their primary ballot for president? Fine state there....
