>It’s a sad fact, but racism still exists in this country.<

It will NEVER go away. In L.A.: whites don’t hang with hispanics, hispanics don’t hang with anyone, Asians don;t hang with anyone. I know, I work and live here.

That’s how it’s been, regardless of those white liberals who push multiculturalism. They themselves do not have any non-white friends.

It is completely natural for people to want to associate with others like themselves, and to avoid people with whom they cannot identify.

It's basic Psychology.

Good post, I'm not sure why people don't get this.

You are, of course, correct in that people will stick to others of similar backgrounds. But the problem, imho, is not “multiculturalism” (depending on what you definition of that is, I may be thinking differently) per se, but that we’re taught the old “all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal.” I grew up and went to school with people of a wide assortment of ethnic and religious backgrounds, and I learned a lot about where people come from, and their view points. It has served me well, because I don’t stop my ears and chant whenever I hear something I don’t like, or agree with, or even understand.

However, I never swallowed the “relativist view” that all viewpoints have equal worth. They don’t. I don’t have to engage in, understand, or accept deviant behavior before passing judgement upon it. I don’t have to modify my behavior because someone wants me to accept theirs. I do let people behave how they choose, without interfering if it’s not hurting or infringing upon someone else, but many “quasi-conservatives” can’t get passed letting people make, and learn from, their mistakes/choices.

That having been said, if what you mean by the liberal sense of “multiculturalism” is that we have to elevate people above us, in order to accept them, or use things like gender and race quotas and affirmative action, etc., then in that use of the word, YES it is absolutely destroying our country. The fact is that 99%+ of all social problems we have today (yes, there’d be new ones) would be solved by getting government OUT of the ungodly, unconstitutional meddling places it has weaseled its way into. If we have liberty and justice, for all, people can get ahead, and fall behind based on their willingness to get out and do something, not by how expert they become at sucking the government (”robbed from taxpayers”) teat. Sadly, “justice” has been misused by the liberals to mean “dominance.”
