Gingrich Calls Obama’s Trayvon Martin Remarks ‘Disgraceful’
ABC ^ | 3-23-12 | Dover

Posted on 03/23/2012 5:41:30 PM PDT by VinL

President Obama’s remarks today about the killing of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin drew scowls from GOP presidential contender New Gingrich, who called them “disgraceful” and divisive.

“What the president said in a sense is disgraceful. It’s not a question of who that young man looked like,” Gingrich said on Sean Hannity’s radio show.

President Obama today offered a personal reflection on the tragic shooting the Florida teenager Trayvon Martin, saying the incident requires all Americans to “do some soul searching.”

“When I think about this boy, I think about my own kids,” Obama told reporters....

Gingrich said on the radio show: ”Any young American of any ethnic background should be safe period. We should all be horrified no matter what the ethnic background. Is the president suggesting that if it had been a white who had been shot that would be ok because it didn’t look like him?”

He went added that it’s “just nonsense dividing this country up. It is a tragedy this young man was shot. It would have been a tragedy if he had been Puerto Rican or Cuban or if he had been white or if he had been Asian American of if he’d been a Native American. At some point we ought to talk about being Americans. When things go wrong to an American. It is sad for all Americans.”

Gingrich, a former speaker of the House of Representatives, said: “Trying to turn it into a racial issue is fundamentally wrong. I really find it appalling.”

....“I think all of us have to do some soul searching to figure out how does something like this happen,” Obama said. ...But my main message is to the parents of Trayvon Martin: If I had a son he’d look like Trayvon

Newt: “Trying to turn it into a racial issue is fundamentally wrong. I really find it appalling.”

That's all they got Newt-- race and gender.

I'm in...til Newt's out.

The playing up of the old and tired “race card”.

Newt would pummel that chump in a debate.

one of them needs to just say ‘This is not an issue for a Presidential election” let the state handle it.

And this is why Newt should be the nominee, he knows how to talk and he knows how to handle the press. He is absolutely SPOT ON here, Obama wants to make everything about race, because that is how he was raised, to hate white people. Obama never calls other victims of crime, everyday someone is murdered by gangs or other violent acts, he doesn’t call them, he only calls when it looks like something he can use to score political points

Newt’s full statement:

Al they are playing in Florida on the local news here is it was all about race/ hate crime.

The White House said days ago, it was a local law enforcement matter, now, look at where we are. We need to wait to get all of the facts in. I agree with Newt. Now, it's about race, getting even.

ZerO will bomb Iran before there is a debate. He will claim he is much too important to the war effort to debate.

Newt's TOTALLY SPOT ON! What Obama said was completely racist! It's about WHAT happened, not WHAT RACE it happened to.

Dang...I keep wishin' he were doing better in the polls!

“Martin, 17, was shot and killed by a neighborhood watch captain while he walked down a neighborhood street unarmed.”

so said ABC

and how about the pictures of Trayvon when he was a child...about 10 years old....we have seen that photo a lot.

now, of course, he was not shot “while he walked down a neighborhood street....” as we know if we read the police report. there was a lot more to it than that.

reality has taken a new turn in this story.

its the perfect set-up for the progressive agenda.

it has racism

it has guns

and its just in time for the elections.....and you can be sure it will be kept on the front page....

and Fast and Furious will not.

America is about to have another “show” trial.

BTW i cannot determine what happened, and why. that is for the “justice system.”

it seems that some places have rules against using deadly force against someone who has no weapons. some places, if you are attacked and are being beaten you are not allowed to shoot until you are certain that your opponent has a weapon.

even if you might be killed by a beating delivered with fists and feet you cannot shoot.

so i am told. it makes no sense. but there it is.

Brilliant statement. Newt is the only one with the guts to call Obama out, and he did so in an utterly uncompromising way.

Besides playing the race card, which is disgusting, Obama is trying to transfer sympathy from the person shot to himself with the “looks like me” comment - so he can benefit politically in the election and that is disgusting too.

America is about to have another “show” trial.

If Zimmerman is put on trial, it's due to public outcry NOT due to any crime. The evidence speaks for itself, and aside from being a moron and not staying in his car, Zimmerman did nothing wrong. He acted in self-defense. He was wounded, wet, and his clothes were grass-stained. He either went through the effort to make it LOOK like there was a struggle, or there was a struggle.

Either way, dead men tell no tales (unless they're black, then the MSM and Jesse Jackson will tell it for them)

According to dipsh!tunderground he was on his knees begging for his life and the Cops are covering this up because Zimmerman's Dad was a Muni Judge.

Zee ground work, she is being laid...BLOAT

I forgot to add, with Zimmerman's Dad being a Muni judge, we have the added benefit of him not only being politically connected (Republican I'm sure) but might even be one of those evil 1%.

Just a little extra to stimulate the ows crowd donchaknow ;)

"Now, it's about race, getting even."

It's about Bobo saying anything to distract the American people from gas prices and the instantaneous negative impact it's having on the economy. The electoral math is completely against them and they are desperate.

It’s never nice to take your marbles and go home when the game is the future of the country. I don’t like Romney either but anyone including the garbage man is better that Obama. At least the garbage man stinks because of honest, respectable work.
