House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) on Sunday left the door open to becoming his party’s vice-presidential candidate.
“I just don’t know the answer to your question,” he said on Fox News Sunday when asked if he would accept a request to be the vice presidential candidate.
“It is not a bridge that I have even come close to crossing. It’s a decision that somebody else makes in a long time from now,” Ryan added about the possibility that the party’s eventual presidential nominee might ask him to join the ticket.
Ryan repeatedly emphasized that he’s focused on steering his recently introduced budget plan through Congress, but certainly didn't rule out the idea of an eventual VP nod.

Paul Ryan is one gutsy individual. In a time of timidity, he had the cajones to proposed serious solutions to dangerous problems. Perhaps he’s too brave to be on the national ticket, but he warrants serious consideration.
He is well qualified with his extensive knowledge of the budget and courage to tell it like it is AND to come up with actual plans to solve the big problems. However, he is a white male from a less consequential state.
Just seems unlikely. Sad that this is what our politics have come to - the color of your skin, or which sex you are, is more important than the content of your character.
Better Ryan than Rubio. We need to get a senate supermajority to reverse the damage fom Obama, so we can’t risk losing his senate seat.
But the big showstopper is the fact that Rubio is not a natural born citizen. He was born in ‘71 but his parents weren’t naturalized until ‘75.
Ryan is a good guy and a fighter, but he would not help the ticket. Obama will re-win Wisconsin and Ryan on the ticket would not change that. I think Rubio must end up being the VP candidate, in order to carry Florida. If the Florida is not carried, it’s over(It may be over anyway).
It’s worth noting that demographic appeal has always come into consideration for a running mate. Usually, it was which state he could deliver. Maybe Ryan would also appeal to his fellow Irish-Americans and Roman Catholics.

He is just a child. It’s bad enough that the current crop have no military nor hint of foreign policy experience. The closest one who understands anything about world affairs is Gingrich.

I was at a meeting where Ryan spoke yesterday (to great applause and standing Os) and he recounted how his ancestors came to WI when potatoes wouldn’t grow so well in Ireland. They arrived int he spring and thought WI looked just like Ireland. Then they were slapped by winter, but they decided to stay anyway. That is why Paul has 65 cousins in his county — all named Ryan. And why (he claims with a laugh) that he has an “easy” time getting re-elected each cycle.
Don’t ever underestimate the Irish.

Who knows? If no one can get a majority at the Republican convention, such a tikcet may happen.
Well I greatly admire Paul Ryan...but since a VP candidate is usually chosen to bring big state electoral votes...I have to wonder, regardless of size, if Ryan could deliver Wisconsin for the ticket?
Not trying to be argumentative...just wondering since there is so much noise from the left in your state. BTW, I live in Oregon - a lost cause I’m afraid.
Personally I’d be happy to vote Ryan for POTUS.
Rick Santorum needs to win the Wisconsin primary. I hope that the local grass roots is doing all it can for him.
Like Delaware (Biden)? Or, Wyoming (Cheney)? Or, Palin (Alaska)? Or, Gore? (TN) a Southern State paired with a Southern State. It seems to me that all that conventional wiscodom about picking the VP candidate for what he/she could bring to the polls was abandoned after Reagan and Bush.
I'm just tweaking you a little bit. I know that the ticket would never be Santorum and Ryan -- 2 young, handsome, smart, Catholic, pro-life leaders, although I'd vote for them in a heartbeat. And Wisconsin is used to being like Rodney Dangerfield, although we've produced a lot of great leaders here. (Even Dick Cheney is a product of our flagship University.)
Why do you think the left makes such a hulla-balloo? They are scared to death, and they are going to be trounced in the recall election. They are already talking about changing their candidate because Gov. Walker is polling so strong. I wouldn't be surprised to see WI turn red in the November election. The unionistas have awakened a sleeping tiger.
Wisconsin has Gov. Scott Walker, Rep. Paul Ryan, Sen. Ron Johnson, and a whole back bench of lesser known, but highly competent, leaders in the legislature.

Well, I suppose Biden like Cheney was supposed to offer gravitas LOLOLOL. Sarah was to get a base - without her I don’t think McCain had much of a base. No explaining Gore...a giant idiot!
Someone here suggested the Governor of New Mexico - female minority. I guess the press would be happy since they wouldn’t have to go so far away to go through her trash as they did with Sarah. Allen West might help but as a 1st term congressman I don’t see his experience as stacking up against a governor. On the other hand, he’s in Florida.

Quite so. Public speculation about his potential for Veep consideration would, in a sane world, bring attention to Obummer’s lack of natural-born citizenship. And if he was not qualified four years ago, he is not qualified today,or tomorrow or anytime..
ANd on the other hand, I thought I'd read that he'd been redistricted out of his seat. Or, at least, the lines had been redrawn to make it more difficult for him to defend his seat. I hope that is not true because I like him.

The local grass roots is fractured and confused. Everybody’s attention is focused on the recall elections. Campaigning for the presidency really just started this weekend. Santorum made about 4 appearances Sat. & Sun. (I think) and Romney made at least 2 nasty robo-calls against Santorum which did nothing more than turn me off. (And I had supported Romney in 2008.)
Even a local talk show host (Belling) waxed on and on on Thursday about how he would normally vote for Santorum, but probably would vote for Romney because he thought Romney was the only one who could beat Obama. Then, by Friday, I understand that he’d switched his tune and said he’d stand by his principles and vote for Santorum. I had to be told that by someone because THursday’s program made me so mad that I turned it off and didn’t listen on Friday.
That is why I’m wearing my Santorum button pinned to my sweater to church tonight. It’s time to stand up for your principles.
