And then he spent the entire post-speech press conference walking back from that statement.
CBS:
____________________________
After a rally at the South Hills Country Club here, Santorum asked Republicans to "pick any other Republican in the country" than GOP presidential front-runner Romney, based on issues that make the former Massachusetts governor "uniquely disqualified" to run against Obama.
Reporters swarmed him for clarification, only to have Santorum testily reply that it was unreasonable to take his comment outside the context of health care. "I would say, as for, on the issue of health care, yes, that's what I was talking about - Obamacare, as you heard me say," he said. "That's what I said. I didn't say anything different than that. That's exactly what I said."
Minutes later, Jeff Zeleny of The New York Times followed up with a question about his outburst, to which Santorum asked, "What speech did you listen to? Stop lying." Pressed further, Santorum clarified that he meant Romney was the worst candidate "to run against Barack Obama on the issue of health care, because he fashioned the blueprint. I've been saying it in every speech. Quit distorting our words. If I see it [in print], it's bull(expletive). C'mon man, what are you doing?"
Romney spokesman Ryan Williams quickly issued a statement in response: "Rick Santorum is becoming more desperate and angry and unhinged every day. He see conservatives coalescing around Mitt Romney and he's rattled by the backlash caused by his suggestion that keeping Barack Obama would be better than electing a Republican. He's panicking in the final stages of his campaign."

Santorum is clearly showing “the real Rick”, which is a petty, egotistical, and unhinged man. At least Gingrich has the intellect behind his ego. Rick has...well, not a lot.
Being more conservative than the other guy is no excuse to act like a jerk.
No, in fact, he’s right over the target.
It looks like Romney is using Alynski tactics on Santorum now. If Romney thinks we don’t recognize it by now, he is insane. Rick goes after Romney on Romneycare. In answer to the criticism, Romney begins to paint Santorum as crazy. Look familiar? This must be why the Romney team met with the Obama team when they were in Illinois. I will NEVER vote for Romney. I’d already been force-fed a candidate in 2008, I certainly don’t need another.

And Newt is ‘erratic’?
After the calm, mature, optimistic and rational solutions offered by Newt, Santorum and Romney appear hysterical and rattled.
Heck, even Ron Paul seems comparitively normal.
It’s the truth. Romney is the godfather of ObamaCare. Romney is the worst possible candidate the GOP could nominate.
Well, in this case, I have to agree with Santorum, sorta. Romney is uniquely disqualified, by his extensive record of unconstitutional actions as Governor of Massachusetts.
As oppposed to the rest of the Republican field, including Santorum, who are just kinda run of the mill average disqualified.
The huge difference between Santorum’s tactics and Romney’s (which has been since Sarah Palin was selected as McCain’s running mate, to smear and attack every opponent) is that Santorum is willing to criticize directly, and not use puppets to do the heavy lifting.
How about you stop defending Romney.
If you support someone, then say who it is and explain why you believe that person deserves to win.
Thanks.
How does it feel, to be Mitt’s puppet?
Stop doing Romney’s dirty work for him.
Thanks.
RE: Stop doing Romneys dirty work for him.
I just post the news reported by others, why are you getting personal?
There is no defense of Romney possible.
The man is a fraud. His record shows he is far to the left of the rest of the Republican Party.
Did you write the editorial comment into the subject line “(Is he becoming unhinged?)”.
That’s not just posting news by others.
That’s a screed, pretending to be news. Did you write it?
Just saying.
RE: Did you write the editorial comment into the subject line (Is he becoming unhinged?).
I added it because IT WAS PART OF THE AMERICAN THINKER HEADING. SEE HERE:
And look at the right column where it exists.
Your issue is with Rick Moran, not me.
Oh. My bad.
In that case my apologies.
Really. I presumed that was the typical FR style addition.
Sorry about that.
I am not for Santorum, but he is 100% correct in this...and unfortunately, no one has been able to make this argument stick throughout the process. Perry failed, Newt failed, and Santorum overall has failed to effective message this due to the overwhelming ad spends against each consecutive non-Romney.
The fact is, Mitt is a terrible candidate to run in 2012. He is easy to frame as the out of touch rich guy that doesn’t know what people are going through. His health care record mitigates our huge advantage on health care, and his political record in Massachusetts is not so different than Obama’s. As it stands, no one can beat him, so he’ll probably be the nominee, but his record opens up multiple opportunities for Obama to run to the left of or to the same position as our nominee, which is something he did against McCain with great success. The only thing better about Mitt is that he is stronger communicator than McCain...that’s not saying much, but it is an improvement over 2008.
Santorum would be well-advised to stay on topic — policies, not personalities.
Santorum’s own resume is rather lacking in executive experience, recent political experience, etc.
Attack Romneycare, not Romney.
Why not attack Romney?
Romney’s been about attacking every single opponent for four years now.
He deserves more criticism. Not less.
Romney’s being coddled. Given a free ride.
Mutt? Yeah. Been unhinged for awhile now.
Actually that’s not the case.
Made the same mistake myself. That’s not from the OP.
RE: No you didn’t. You placed personal commentary in the parentheses after the headline.
Nope, I simply added the heading that was in the original headline by Rick Moran. And a question is not a commentary. A question is a question. If your answer is NO, I am not going to quarrel with it.
No, you added your snark, "Is he becoming unhinged?"
What, to you, is unhinged about noticing Romney's uniquely disqualifying flaws?
Besides the press can have so much fun with all the crap on Romney his flip flopping and his religion once the he is the candidate.
Rick is right Romney is uniquely disqualified to run a a republican and the press knows it.
I won’t defend Romney but everyone can damn well believe I will vote for him versus Obama. Obama is evil incarnate and he must not win.
Satan himself would be preferable.
The GOP always finds some reason not to push back.
Always.
“Unhinged” works for me when he pulls 49% in LA like he did on Saturday. Now if “unhinged” Rick can just win Wisconsin.
I checked the American Thinker piece. It’s not there.
Romney is uniquely unqualified to run against Obama. Remember Romneycare? Even Newt has made this point.
Do you want to smear him too?
Whether R.S. is becoming unhinged to not, his statement is absolutely correct. Romney is the worst possible candidate to run against Obama. I absolutely refuse to vote for Romney as I believe as George Soros ...very little difference between Romney and Obama.
I know the argument concerning replacement of Supreme Court justices, however I feel Romney would choose no better than Daddy Bush. With Obama in office, the conservative justices are less likely to retire.
RE: Do you want to smear him too?
Too? Where did I smear anyone? Or Santorum for that matter?
RE: No, you added your snark, “Is he becoming unhinged?”
NOPE, I added what Rick Moran posted on the American Thinker website to generate discussion. Look harder. Go to the American Thinker main page and look at the column on your right and scroll down to where the article is. Better still, search for the word : ‘unhinged’ on the page. His words, not mine.
RE: What, to you, is unhinged about noticing Romney’s uniquely disqualifying flaws?
The only thing I disagree with in Santorum’s statement is his using the word BS ( IN FULL ). That makes him look un-collected.
Other than that, I agree with the sentiment of his statement.
“Its not there.”
Yes it is.
In the right hand column on the front page.

“Santorum calls Romney ‘uniquely disqualified’ to run against Obama
March 26, 2012
Is Santorum becoming unhinged? More “
RE: I checked the American Thinker piece. Its not there.
You’re looking at the wrong page.
1) Go to American Thinker’s main page : http://americanthinker.com
2) Search for the words:
“Is Santorum becoming unhinged?” ( Cut and paste what I just posted ).
OR
From the main page, look at the right most column (American Thinker Blog). Scroll down to the sixth article. You will see the phrase there.
When Santantrum steps in it, and the facts get reported, you are smearing him. Because......because we are supposed to ignore any thing Santo does, because he is pure and holy, because, he is the “only conservative” in the race, because anything Santorum does is not to be questioned or criticized.....
It's simple.
My sincere apologies. I checked the link in the original post, not the main page link. It was a legit subhead. Honest mistake on my part from someone who is sick of Santorum being attacked for his virtues, not his goofs.
Not to mention the Bain stuff -- which, when Obama gets through with it, will make socialism look not nearly so unpalatable to lots of people.
Santorum just lost my support
I find both Romney and Saintorum to be “uniquely disqualified” to run against Obama.
http://dailycaller.com/2012/03/25/santorum-zimmerman-has-a-very-sick-mind-motive-a-malicious-one/
I took your post to be a swipe at Santorum. If that wasn’t intended, I apologize.
I don’t care who the nominee is as long as it isn’t Mittens. Newt has warts; Santorum has warts; RP has warts (and isn’t a contender). I would take any of them over Mittens.
