Sarah Palin says when she heard about Rick’s comment, she said ‘good on ya’ and was glad he called out the liberal leftist media. She also says it reveals good, strong character in Santorum:

Look, it wasn’t my idea that the GOP would end up being such an unfocused, self interested bunch of nitwits that every single aspect of this year’s campaign involves some opposite.

The GOP is self-destructing.

I’m just taking a position. This year every position involves something stupid.

I say oppose Romney. Period. Do everything legally possible to prevent him winning in the first round.

If he wins, then we buck it up and defeat Obama.

I don’t like it, but that’s what it is.

Palin could have prevented this.

She didn’t. That was the solution. Don’t hit the rock. Well, we hit the rock.

Now we’re just trying to keep the ship afloat.

You are not missing anything. CNN is delusional. Not only is Santo open to VP or any other Cabinet position under Romney, there were reports out two or three weeks ago that Santo rejected overtures from ex-Speaker of the House Gongrich. Santo’s evangelical supporters will not countenance an alliance with Gingrich.

Pull back your assumptions a bit. Why do you think I hate him? He simply doesn’t have the chutzpah to be President. And this illustrates it. Sure, the NYT may be the enemy, but that also doesn’t change reality. Which is if he can’t handle the NYT how can he handle Iran?

And what exactly does Newt have to show for his confrontations with the media?

So, his trailing in the race negates anything he has done? His debate performances, which include dressing down of the media, are what catapulted him from an also-ran to the forefront of attention. But, you know that.

I don't dislike Santorum. But, you can't claim moral superiority and then cuss out a reporter because you didn't like his question. He is not 'leader of the free world' material. I agree with most of his stances. But 'good positions' is not the only requirement needed in a leader. And Santorum simply doesn't have it.

A team? Santorum said he’s “open to being Romney’s VP”. What am I missing?

Newt Gingrich said today he would be willing to be second on a Mitt Romney ticket.

“No, I wouldn’t say no,” Gingrich said on Fox News Channel’s Your World with Neil Cavuto about what he would do if he was asked to become Romney’s vice president. “I can’t imagine him offering.”

"So, his trailing in the race negates anything he has done?"

Speaking strictly in terms of the primary, yes. His trailing negates everything his campaign has done. Conversely, if he were leading, that would validate everything his campaign has done. Again, I'm not speaking in terms of philosophy, morality, or even fact, but strictly in the context of the primary.

"...you can't claim moral superiority and then cuss out a reporter because you didn't like his question. He is not 'leader of the free world' material."

Santorum didn't cuss out the reporter because he "didn't like his question". He cussed him out because of the reporter's repeated insistence on misquoting Santorum's answers in Santorum's face.

But, you know that.

Santorum and Newt splitting the conservative vote is the only reason in hell Willard the liberal will be the nominee. And, that will be the only reason that Barry Sorreto is reelected. Sorreto can not beat a conservative who will fire up the base. He can and will beat RINO Romney like a drum in the general election. Sad, but that’s what’s going to happen. Didn’t need to happen, but Santorum would never get out and leave the fight between Newt and the liberal Romney. If he had, all the money in the world could not have won Willard the nomination from Newt Gingrich, who has more sense and integrity in his big toe that Willard has in his entire RINO body.

Honestly, Sarah, who cares what you think anymore.?

You couldn’t come out and support anyone.. when it might have helped a candidate.

You couldn’t run because one of your kids voted “no”.

Please, just go back to Anchorage and be happy.

Evidently this is new information for you. There were threads discussing every aspect of the reports. Do you actually doubt that Santorum rejected Gingrich’s offer to team up to prevent the nomination of Romney?!

CNN: "The GOP is self-destructing." You can say that again. Never in my lifetime have I seen the base so disgruntled at the party leadership. They are rallying around their nominee. We can't stand the man. I have always opposed third parties, but I really don't know how much more of this I can stand. Mitt Romney is not a conservative. He's not even a very good moderate in my opinion. He was on the wrong side, the Democrat side, of virtually every issue as governor. He never, to my knowledge, put his skin on the line for conservative principle. In regards to this thread, I just wish the Santorum and Gingrich forces would quit sniping at each other. It gains us nothing at this point. I'm really tired of FReepers who make snide references to Santorum's faith. Being a Christian is not a bad thing. Maybe Rick is a bit more overt about it than I'd like, but c'mon. He's a decent guy. I'm also tired of the Newt bashers. Again, what good does that do anyone? So Sarah Palin says something nice about Santorum, and some FReepers have to tear that comment down. Sad.

Well duh, if they wanted Newt, they would have voted for him. Not to mention that why would a person ally themself with someone who runs behind Ron Paul in many states?

Not to worry though, Newt did say he would be Romney’s VP. Newt has worked hard to stay in this race for the Mittster.

Go Noot! Yeah Rah!

The reporter's question was legitimate. Perhaps at other functions, Rick said that Mitt was the worst Republican in terms of healthcare, but not at that time; he simply said he was the worst Republican. The reporter read back the quote, there was no 'healthcare' context. Ricky didn't like the question because he screwed up so he responded by throwing a temper tantrum.

His trailing negates everything his campaign has done.

So, whoever wins the nomination should disassociate himself from Sarah Palin because the previous nominee associated himself with her and that didn't work so well. Is that right? Since Republicans have run on conservative ideas and that didn't always work, we should abandon those, too? So, anything Perry, Bachmann, Cain supported is also out, right? Oh, and Santorum is trailing in delegates, so I guess anything he has done is wrong, too. In fact, since Obama has run the last successful presidential run, we should just do what he does.

As I understand it, the same reporter has asked the question repeatedly of Rick on several occasions, and Rick has answered it repeatedly, but the reporter insisted on abbreviating Rick's answer and taking it out of context.

"So, whoever wins the nomination should disassociate himself from Sarah Palin...In fact, since Obama has run the last successful presidential run, we should just do what he does."

You're as obtuse as the NYT reporter. Clearly, you're ignoring what I wrote in my last reply to you: "Again, I'm not speaking in terms of philosophy, morality, or even fact, but strictly in the context of the primary." Strictly speaking, in the context of running a campaign, and achieving a campaign's primary objective (to win), yes Obama ran a better, more succesful campaign than McCain. It may not have been better in philosophical, moral or factual terms, but it was "better" in the sense that it won.

Similarly, if Newt was way out front as the runaway front runner, I would state he was running a more successful campaign than Mitt or Rick, completely independent of whether or not I agreed or disagreed with him. Conversely, the fact that Newt is trailing both, one has to objectively assess his campaign as being less succsesful than either.

They both have publicly said that they were willing to work as a team. Now whether they actually will or not is another story. Here are their own statements:

Gingrich is willing... http://articles.businessinsider.com/2012-03-14/politics/31163052_1_gingrich-santorum-gingrich-campaign-senior-advisor

Santorum is willing... http://www.newsmax.com/Headline/santorum-gingrich-runningmate-alabama/2012/03/08/id/431942

Together I think they would defeat Romney.

You are over thinking my response. I agree with your analysis that his great mind and tenacity would befit him as SOS. Mine was more of a juvenile wish to see the media crushed and exposed as the socialists they are. Col West would indeed be a great fit.

God bless and may the Lord preserve the U.S.A.

I kind of figured that now, in retrospect, and sorry if I “overreached”. I see your point. Yes, Newt would be good daily smacking the lib/Marxist loving press so that they would want to retire and cover a beat, say, in the state capitols instead of Washington.

Sarah is, as always, 100% correct. Santorum DID display strong character with the “BS” comment – however, he waffles horribly on right to work legislation. The only way to break the unions’ stranglehold on the country is to aggressively and uncompromisingly push, support and vote for right to work. There is no substitute for complete victory and you cannot compromise with the liberal left, particulary the union thugs, on ANYTHING. Ever.
