During Elena Kagans confirmation hearings in June of 2010, Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) grilled her about whether an eat-your-fruits-and-veggies law would be constitutional. If I wanted to sponsor a bill and it said, Americans, you have to eat three vegetables and three fruits every day, and I got it through Congress and thats now the law of the land, got to do it, does that violate the Commerce Clause? Coburn asked.
Sounds like a dumb law, Kagan replied.
I got one thats real similar that I think is equally dumb, Coburn countered.
But I think that the question of whether its a dumb law is different from the question of whether its constitutional, Kagan answered.
Well worth noting - she specifically DID NOT SAY that it would be unconstitutional for Congress to require broccoli eating.

Its a republic if you can keep it was a warning
He was absolutely correct. However, that was back when candidates for office ran for office. Today they pay huge sums of money to even be a candidate for office.
Votes counted back then...Votes are bought today.
Very different people ran for office back then and it was a real republic with representatives actually doing the business of the people rather than lining their pockets, garnering favors from special interests and “feathering their nest” for when they left office.
We don’t have any patriots any more...just rich “fat cats” enjoying a lifetime in office.

Is that your self-portrait? Here’s an idea; Let’s make the Conservative / republican tent so small that only YOU fit into it. Now THERE’s a path to victory in November for you.

Pablo Picasso's. I've got a better idea than a circus tent: instead of our current Coke vs. Pepsi duopoly let's have 4 viable parties that better represent the political spectrum. From left to right the parties would be: the socialists/communists, the big government Democrat hireling party, the big business country club Republicans, and the conservatives. Each block should have about 25% market share. That way we'd be represented 25% of the time instead of our current 2.5%.
