Romney nails endorsements from George H.W. Bush and Florida Senator Marco Rubio

Mitt Romney trotted out a pair of big-name GOP endorsements Thursday to urge Republicans to close ranks around him — but his main rivals refuse to abandon their own White House dreams.

Romney received the blessing of powerful Republicans past — former President George H.W. Bush — and present - popular Florida Senator Marco Rubio — in a 24-hour span, further signaling that the GOP establishment wants the grueling primary process to end.

Romney even met with opponent Newt Gingrich over the weekend in New Orleans to ask for his support, but no deal was brokered, advisors to both men told NBC News.

Gingrich has vowed to stay in the race until the GOP convention in Tampa, but money woes have forced him to trim his staff and travel plans.

Even Las Vegas casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, who has largely bankrolled the ex-Speaker’s Super PAC, said Gingrich has reached “the end of his line.”

This is the reason the GOP field is so weak: The most damaging thing Bush, Rove, and co. did was to destroy the conservative "farm team" by controlling the distribution of GOP campaign money at the State and local level. The TEA Party has threatened that organizational structure, but they've been working overtime to "weed" and co-opt that grassroots process.

This is why Romney must be defeated: He will see to that it that the same process is perpetuated.

During the press conference, I couldn’t tell who was alive and who had assumed room temperature. It looked terrible.

After Obama is reelected, he’ll be much more flexible, and I’ll meet a lot more English speakers here.

Thank you for the endorsements, I live in Wisconsin and I want this crap to be done with. In the next two months we are going to hear everything about how Walker is evil, and he is going screw over the state. Than, after that we are going to hear for 6 months about Obama is the greatest president we have ever had. I am sick of it and I am getting burnt out.

Well, Woodrow Wilson used it, as did Winston Churchill and a host to others not known as being fuzzy-headed one-worlders.
