Mayor Bloomberg: Trayvon Martin Shooting Makes The Need For Gun Control All Too Clear
nydailynews.com ^ | March 26, 2012 | Celeste Katz

Since gun control has been a personal cause of his for years, it's no surprise to hear that Mayor Bloomberg says the shooting death of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin should be a sharp reminder about the need to regulate who has access to firearms.

Here are some of the remarks Bloomberg made when asked today about the killing, per our Reuven Blau:

"Your heart just has to go out to the parents. I just pray for the deceased, but this really just struck a nerve in a lot of people across the country.

"We should be perfectly clear about this — the gun lobby is writing our nation’s gun laws. It’s a disgrace. They write them in Washington. They write them in the state capitals. And the result is that our children are being killed. Our police officers are being killed. You and I and our families are in danger -- in greater danger than we should be.

"The 'stand your ground' laws, as they are called, are opposed by law enforcement and opposed by prosecutors. I think both groups think that the 'stand your ground' laws encourage violence.

"And there’s another issue which I didn’t read very much about: The shooter, this guy Zimmerman, how could he have had a permit to carry a concealed weapon? A loaded gun in the first place? Because long before he shot Trayvon Martin, he was arrested for attacking a police officer and was the subject of a court order to prevent domestic violence.

"But unfortunately, in Florida the gun laws are very lax. And law enforcement officials have never been able to revoke this guy’s license to carry a loaded gun in public. If that’s not bad enough, just two days after the shooting, two U.S. senators introduced bills that would allow people like George Zimmerman to carry guns in public nationwide.

"This is just the craziest thing. Only in America. We have more guns than people. The rest of the world is looking at us incredulously. We are letting people kill our citizens. We have killed more people with hand guns—which may or not have been illegal -- in this country since Martin Luther King and RFK were assassinated back in ’68. We’ve killed more Americans than died in World War II. Something like over 400,000 Americans. Where is the outrage? You know you’ve got to think about it.

"We have this bipartisan coalition of something like 650 Mayors across the country. We are leading the fight against this bill. It’s a terrible reminder of the dangers we all face and as a matter of fact we are looking for lawyers who want to volunteer their time and help us in the fight."

Bloomberg’s rant reminds me:
I need to order more ammo.
Thanks Mike.

If you are at a gun show, anywhere in the West and hear a New York accent, kick their butts out of the show. They are New York cops working under cover for Bloomberg, ILLEGALLY.

How do you like last month this Jewish charity was collecting food for the homeless and this b*tch Bloomberg demanded it be confiscated unless it met specific nutritional requirements? Mark Levin went nuts over that.

Bloomberg’s stupid statement makes it apparent why there is a need for more laws to control his mental illness.

He is the worm in the rotting Big Apple.

TN kicked their ass out. The then Mayor Haslem really didn’t know what it was all about. He does now and he is Governor. Bloomy was forced to move on without facing major suits. Tell those western leaders to call Haslem in Nashville.

This case only shows that our media have an agenda; when two British tourists are executed by a young, black offender..there’s no wanted posters or discussion of the crime comparable to this hypocritical nonsense over Martin. I’m done trying to be civil. Bloomberg can go take flying leap off a tall building. Go back to playing dictator..he won’t even allow citizens to feed the homeless because he’s deemed the meals might not be healthy. We don’t need a billionaire media mogul assailing our right to defend ourselves because a thug assaulted a man by beating him to the ground and was shot and killed. This is arrogance at it’s worst. Fascist jerk!

It’s not a stand your ground case, it’s a self defense case. Does anybody here believe Bloomberg would give two sh6ts if Martin had bashed Zimmermans head in and strode home with Zimmermans 9 and his skittles?

Does Bloomberg care that somne young black fellow just raped and killed an 85 year old white woman and left her 90 year old husband, a former paratrooper, lying in a hospital bed in critical condition?

Anybody here see any politician or talk show host anywhere discussing the fact that black folks are 12 % of the population and committ 51% of the murders in America? Or that blacks murder whites 7 times more often than whites murder blacks?

Would Bloomberg have something to say about the 17 year old sociopath that murdered two British tourists in Florida for the hell of it and has not nor will he ever show the least bit of remorse?

Why are there no Hispanic leaders speaking out about the lynch mob looking for Zimmerman?

Why doesn’t Bloomberg speak out on why nobody came to Zimmermans aid while he was screaming for help? If they had Martin might still be alive.

And finally how does it feel to live in a country where 73% of the population wants Zimmerman tried and convicted when there isn’t even probable cause to arrest him in evidence?

Inquiring minds and all.

Lets be honest Bloomberg thinks that any moment the people not like him could turn into nazis, therefor they must be made as harmless as possible. No use debating facts with this crazy that is useless.

What on earth does this case have to do with gun control?
The gun was legal and registered. The person carrying it was legal.
An ivestigation may or may not determine that the death of the Martin was a crime but in no way does that relate to gun control...
So IMHO STFU............

And now we clearly see why this has ben made into a huge issue instead of the local story it should’ve remained about not assaulting someone because they may just be armed.....
