Rick Santorum invokes Ronald Reagan at Jelly Belly factory in California

FAIRFIELD, Calif. — Republican leaders and voters, frustrated by their party's prolonged presidential contest, are increasingly coalescing behind front-runner Mitt Romney. Yet Rick Santorum on Thursday urged conservatives not to forsake their principles under pressure.

He did so by conjuring the memory of Ronald Reagan, still the conservative icon, at an oddly symbolic place: the jelly bean factory that created the former president's favorite treats.

"Let them know, conservatives all across this country have not given up the fight, we're not going to concede to the moderate establishment who wants to convince everybody that it's over, it's time to go away," Santorum told about 200 supporters at the Jelly Belly factory in a town halfway between San Francisco and Sacramento.

He alluded to Reagan's favored policy trio of free enterprise, a strong defense and conservative social policies, saying, "We as conservatives need to stand up and fight for a candidate who can win this general election, who stands solidly, firmly on the 'three-legged stool' that brought the Reagan coalition together."

Santorum's brushback of party leaders came the same day that former President George H.W. Bush endorsed Romney, and after similar nods from Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush. All three expressed concern that the party's prolonged nomination battle was harming their nominee's chances against President Obama in the fall.

Santorum declined to comment on the endorsements while shaking hands with supporters after his speech.

Like all of the GOP candidates, Santorum speaks glowingly of the late president, but his remarks on Thursday had special resonance because of the locale. Multicolored murals of Reagan and his wife, Nancy, made of jelly beans, hung outside the room where Santorum spoke.

Oh yeah, I know. I’m not looking for perfection at this point, because it simply doesn’t exist.

In fact the only thing I’m looking for is -not Obama-.

I would have liked to see newt do better as well, but something happened, I don’t know what it was, but it definitely happened.

I’m not thrilled at all about having to vote for Romney, believe me, and Santorum has infuriated me with his unwarranted and retarded attack on George Zimmerman, however, if I have to vote for him, I will, but God do our candidates SUCK!

What a damnable shame that Santorum is delaying their little coronation by telling the truth about Socialist Lite. Keep on fighting, Rick! Bob

I blame to police for waiting two weeks before information was released exculpating Zimmerman to some degree. It surely seemed like a cover-up to me as well.
I saw Rick last weekend at a Pa. conference, and his speech was powerful and masterful, lasting over half an hour and delivered without a single note except those laid on his heart. Bob

I'm not going to quibble with you about dates, but if I had access to the information, then I'm sure he did also, and although I agree that at first glance Zimmerman seems to be guilty (a reason in itself not to comment)I would question anybody's judgement and character if, upon seeing the widely publicized pictures of Zimmerman and Martin, doesn't think something is wrong in their presentation. Common sense alone would dictate that these can't be the most recent pictures of these individuals. Why therefore, are they trying to coerce guilt and innocence.

The pictures alone tell you something is afoot, and I'm sorry, but if he doesn't even have enough sense to think before he speaks in an atmosphere where the Black Panthers are publicly calling for Zimmerman's assassination, and Congress members are having mock hearings that are little more than spiritual revivals to fuel the fire of racism and discontent, and elected representatives all over the country are donning symbols in the name of a murdered victim whose civil rights have been violated in the most heinous of ways by a murderous racist, not to mention all the vile coming from so called Civil Rights Leaders and Hollywood celebrities...

...In light of all of this and so much more, if Rick Santorum hasn't got enough sense to reach into his bag of conservatives principles and pull out a good reason to be cautious about what he says, then yes, I tend to question his leadership abilities, amongst other things.

But it is what it is and there's no way I'm going to vote for Obama and neither will I refrain from voting. So I'm stuck with the flaws...

“Santorum was incredulous that Romney had been running ads in Wisconsin that imply Santorum supported abortion rights while in Congress.”

Here’s the truth:

“On abortion, he is one of many senators who vote pro-life. The difference is that he is personally responsible for making sure a lot of these votes occur in the first place: He was an architect of the effort to ban partial-birth abortion, a strategy that energized the pro-life movement and allowed it to go on the political offensive.”

Romney is a liar, and it’s so frustrating that even people who don’t like him much, are voting for him because they THINK he can beat Obama. Mark Levin, and other sources, are saying that Romney’s popularity against Obama is ALREADY slipping.

Rick Santorum said on Twitter that he will have some kind of contest, to make phone calls, right from our own homes.

Let’s hope we grassroots folks win this one. It’s up to us, and future GOP primary voters.

Santorum and I were both wrong to be so hasty, but I know if I was in charge of the case, I’d have released information casting doubt on Zimmerman’s guilt *before* the state became a swirling cesspool in which the likes of Sharpton and Jackson have waded.

...”You know what, forget it. You seem like a nice person, and it doesn’t seem like we have any disagreements as far as politics or religion are concerned. Sorry to have bothered you”...

I appreciate your kind words csense. The same to you.

As for the division about who should be the Republican candidate, it’s more than saying “anyone but Obama”

Everyone in the country should be shouting “anyone but a “non-Christian.” The silence, ignoring Mormonism, this is why Romney is quiet about his belief because Mormonism is “wacko”, it’s not Christian.

How come all of the “establishment” is backing Romney? Big
hint.

Take a moment and pray an Our Father for Santorum.
