The added protections are part of a directive issued in recent weeks by Gen John Allen, the top US commander in Afghanistan, to guard against insider threats, according to a senior military official. The so-called guardian angels provide an extra layer of security, watching over the troops as they sleep, when they are exercising, and going about their day.

Pull out now. Any casualities is blood on Obama's hand. As a comparison, after 10 years West Germany reconstituted its armed forces as the Bundeswehr. Maybe I am ignorant but I never read about West German soldiers fracking their former enemies.

Why was there no on-base security after the first shooting. Or before?
Let me guess, they did not want to offend their "hosts".

Now we have troops in Afghanistan to protect the troops we have in Afghanistan. We’re here because we’re here because we’re here because we’re here...

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
The Romans had the same problem 2000 years ago.

And If you would have heard of German police etc,, turning and attacking Occupation forces post WWII,, there would have been immediate and brutal actions on our part to stop it cold.
As long as we continue the fiction that Afghans are an allied army, we will see more of this. Any Afghan seen with a weapon should be shot in sight. Otherwise, we should immidiately leave without a thought to *anything* except force protection as we evacuate.

Obama will declare victory, pull out, and abandon the country to the Taliban.

Mark my words...

Two of three. Declaring "victory" offends muslims, so 0bama won't deign to upset his brothers.

I’m not sure I understand this. There are always watchstanders at night, standing their posts and doing rounds. Any of us that were in the military have done it. It’s guard duty. It’s not new.

He will not characterize the Taliban as the “enemy”. It will be Al Qeida is defeated, Bin Ladinis dead (in case you forgot) and that we are leaving the Nation of Afghanistan in the hands of the Taliban, our buddies, who represent the will of the people there.

The difference is that when you are guard duty you now have to watch to make sure your “allies” aren’t cutting your buddy’s head off. I remember being on guard duty at Camp Shelby with my ROTC unit in college. No one ever took me aside and told me to watch out that the MS National Guard guys didn’t blow up our barracks while we slept.

The first rule of fighting is NEVER LET YOUR GUARD DOWN.

It’s taken our admirals and generals, what, twelve years to figure this out? They should take every admiral and general from the past twelve years and throw the lot of them in an Afghan prison. What are we paying these shithead flag officers for? Why give them a retirement? Let them all retire in Kabul. Goddamn, we wouldn’t pay a sewer sucker for twelve years if he couldn’t clean the sewer. Why are we paying these admirals and generals? You don’t have to be a good fighter to become an admiral or general, and that’s the crime in this. We have a bunch of cross-country runners who have mastered the bureaucratic intricacies of their organization to get ahead. A bunch of worthless pukes incapable of fighting their way out of a wet paper bag. With your shields or on them, admirals and generals.

I think the point is, that the guards were afghans and are now Americans. Not sure why they would have ever been afghans, and not Americans.

A caller brought this up on Rush today, but he didn’t really allow her to elaborate.

This is closer to personal body guards. They don’t roam or have posts. They stand and guard.
