A Wisconsin man, who along with his three friends is suspected of illegally slaughtering as many as 100 deer in what prosecutors call an unprecedented "thrill-kill" spree, faces up to six months in jail.

Nathan Blaha, 20, of Hillsboro, Wis., and his accomplices allegedly wandered the backroads of Richland County in a pickup truck, stunning deer with a light before shooting them and leaving their carcasses to rot in what he called a contest to “get the most deer,” according to court documents.

Goes into the food chain no matter what you do with it, unless you burn it

Entirely correct. Even the parts not eaten by other animals becomes organic matter in the soil which encourages plant growth.

I live in "1-in-42" WEST Virginia.

Statistics are low, IMO ... not all collisions cause enough damage to be reported.

I know whereof I speak.

We participate in the DMAP program in VA. On 1600 ac we get a yearly quota of around 40 does to take to keep a healthy population. Every year if we don’t take that many the numbers get too high quickly as most does have 2 fawns. Not many participate in this program. Also not many hunters want to kill does and not many people hunt. The deer population is way too high in the US. 10,000 guys doing this every night for a month might make a sizable dent. There are estimates of 20 million deer in the US today and their population can double every 2-3 years. I think they don’t because they are staving due to high numbers today. We forsook managing our environment due to environmentalism and the feminizing of our society. What we need is more hunters who hunt responsibly.

So, committing basically acts of exterminating entire populations improves the population?

I understand the principle of husbandry, in that removing weak members strengthens a population, but I doubt killing hundreds at a time does that.

There’s too many deer in many parts of the country. But it’s kind of a shame that they didn’t make better use of them.

Actually, my daughter’s car hit a deer a few weeks ago—a yearling “button buck.” A couple of hunters stopped to help. They called the Game Warden, who came, killed the deer, and gave it to my daughter. My youngest son helped her to cut it up and skin it. They’ve put it away in the freezer, and among other things made some really good sausage. Luckily, not much damage to the car.

But it’s true. Deer are far more likely to kill you than sharks. They just don’t excite the media in the same way. And in most parts of the country, there are far too many of them for the good of the woodlands.

Buzzards have to eat too. I’d prefer what they eat not be something that wrecks my car and puts my life in jeopardy. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against wildlife, and these guys weren’t looking to improve the herd. The herd in many places in the USA needs to be thinned by a large amount. They are over-populated and small because of it(still large enough to cause problems to vehicles). I would be in favor of hunting restrictions that require taking two does before you can take a buck for instance, in my area
