A Wisconsin man, who along with his three friends is suspected of illegally slaughtering as many as 100 deer in what prosecutors call an unprecedented "thrill-kill" spree, faces up to six months in jail.

Nathan Blaha, 20, of Hillsboro, Wis., and his accomplices allegedly wandered the backroads of Richland County in a pickup truck, stunning deer with a light before shooting them and leaving their carcasses to rot in what he called a contest to “get the most deer,” according to court documents.

So, committing basically acts of exterminating entire populations improves the population?

No, you're missing the entire point. Deer populations are so artificially high, that they're destroying the forests, not to mention posing a real problem for drivers in suburban and rural areas, sometimes a fatal problem.

If you had 1,000 hunters, dropping 20 deer every day, it would take you about 3 years to get the deer population back to a natural level.

“I lost most of my sympathy for deer when I hit one standing in the road and totaled my car. Now I see them as nuisance pests.”

I was landing at the Dickson County, Tn. airport late one night and just as I touched down I saw several deer standing right in front of me. I didn’t know you could drive a Cessna like a car but I did it.

Deer are rats with good PR.

“Around 1900, there were about 500,000 deer in the U.S. Today, there’s over 20 million, a 40x increase.”

Around 1900 we were slaughtering off all wildlife we could get in our gunsights, driving many species to the brink of extinction.

“Deer kill more Americans every year than any other animal (about 150).”

Interesting way you phrased that. Do they deliberately jump in front of cars so they can kill someone? Or do they actually hunt down people in the woods to kill them?

but here in NJ people are endangered by these things all over our roadways. One of our former governors even had Lyme disease; there is no reason for these things to be living in proximity to people.

Well, considering people are everywhere, just where are deer supposed to live? Or have they lost the right to even exist and should be driven into extinction?

But it’s kind of a shame that they didn’t make better use of them.

I live in the city, but go out to the country frequently, to hunt and visit in-laws, so it probably comes as no shock that I don't know anyone besides those I hunt with, who eats venison. Do you think it's popular enough that harvesting them would be worth while?

Stupid little punks who do this are just flat out lazy and do not do hunters or even gun owners in general any favors. They do not deserve accolades from anyone.

Yes, I know the population is out of hand, I’ve collided with deer on three occasions personally. This, however, is disgusting. You hunt, you take a life, you honor that life you’ve taken by using the meat, the skin, you don’t kill it and leave it to rot, or even worse, cut the tenderloin out and leave everything else for the locals to clean up.

This is wrong, just plain wrong.

They really need to be killed thousands at a time in our area. I drove by about twenty of them just in the last mile of my drive home tonight.

My daughter has hit one already this year, I’ve had dozens of close calls and was actually hit by one after I came to a complete stop. I saw the doe, slammed on my brakes and while I was stopped a buck came right over fence and ran into my bumper, then stood there for a minute looking like he thought it was my fault.

I fixed a fence Wednesday that the dear tore up over the winter and we can’t even keep a garden because the antlered vermin are so thick.

If you go by my experience, yes, they do wait beside the road and then jump out at precisely the right time to impact cars. They do it to me in my driveway several times a week. I honk at them to mess up their timing.

And now, thanks to the 40x increase, they're bringing our forests to the brink of extinction. The deer may be cute, but they're destroying the environment.

Wow, you really don't know much about deer. Take a look at the pictures posted to you, I think you'll figure it out.

I’ve hit a few here in Michigan. Last fall my aunt bought a new car and hit a deer on her way home with it then hit another the next morning on her way to the garage.

A co-worker had one jump off a bank beside the highway onto his car. It flipped a couple of times (the auto). I don’t think they were able to determine motive in the attack
