Authorities say former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf has been arrested in his Montana hometown on burglary and drug possession charges.
Great Falls Police Sgt. Dean Bennett says Leaf was arrested Friday afternoon.
The circumstances surrounding Leaf's arrest are not immediately clear. Bennett says he hasn't seen a report detailing the allegations.

It’s always interesting to see where these athletes who can’t perform end up.
Normally I would be sympathetic to someone who tried, but failed publicly like a professional sports player. It isn’t easy to be in the spotlight. But so much came out when he had his troubles about how arrogant he and his whole family was, how he had been coddled and his behavior excused his whole life because he was a sports prospect, how coaches protected transgressions, etc, that he loses all sympathy. So many people stepped forward from his past and said, “What did you expect?”
I was about to say much the same thing.
So, he’s turned a new (marijuana) leaf?
Leaf was the biggest disappointment Charger fans have seen in years...and that is saying a lot.
The San Diego Padres passed on their problem to the Tampa Bay Rays.
Sadly, Bush is in real trouble this time.
He looks reasonably heveled in that picture.
I certainly understand your thoughts, and, to a certain degree, agree with them. However, exactly what you stated is a big reason why Ryan Leaf has failed in life. Forget football, he was completely and utterly unprepared emotionally for life in general. Where were his parents, coaches, mentors when he was young? Why did no one correct him? That's probably a rhetorical question, but it deserves an answer from those who formed his youth.
I have a brother-in-law who has the same shortcomings, although he was never involved in sports. His mother (my mother-in-law) coddled him from day one, covering for his every mistake, blaming others for his bad choices, bailing him out of any problems (including legal), paying his rent etc. He's now 40 years old and has ZERO responsibility, no work ethic and lives off his mom and the government. His life is reaping what his mother had sown.
I know, I know, personal responsibility is paramount, but when it's never modeled or taught it's difficult to live.
I remember when this guy was supposed to be something.
He has to be the absolute top on any list of biggest busts in sports history.
I was about to say, “I was about to say much the same thing”.
Jinx. Sluggies. No returnies.
Leaf has cancelled his planned book signing Saturday at the Barnes & Noble in Billings.
The event was scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m. at the store, located at 530 S. 24th Street West. Leaf’s father, John, said something had happened at home in Great Falls that prevented the trip to Billings. No future plans have been made for another signing.
In November 2008, Leaf was put on indefinite leave, and subsequently resigned one day later, from his coaching position at West Texas A&M for allegedly asking one of his players for a pill to help him deal with pain in his wrist from past injuries.

Kimball Bennion of Great Falls Tribune, by way of Brian Floyd at CougCenter, reports that Leaf was arrested in Great Falls on Friday. Here are the details of the arrest available at this time:
Ex-NFL quarterback and Great Falls native Ryan Leaf was arrested on burglary, theft and drug charges, according to officials at the Cascade County Detention Center.
Leaf was arrested at about 1 p.m. He is charged with felony burglary, misdemeanor theft and criminal possession of dangerous drugs.
In April 2010, Leaf pleaded guilty in Amarillo, Texas, to seven counts of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud and one count of delivery of a simulated controlled substance, all felonies. State District Judge John B. Board sentenced Leaf to 10 years of probation and fined him $20,000.
On March 30, 2012 Leaf was arrested on burglary, theft, and drug charges in Cascade County, Montana.
I didn't know 'being stupid' was an arrestable offense.
Where did the money go?
July 26, 1998 -
San Diego Chargers quarterback Ryan Leaf agreed today to a contract that includes an $11.25 million signing bonus, the largest ever for a rookie. The bonus is part of a complex deal that could pay Leaf, the second pick in the April draft, $31.25 million over five seasons, an average of $6.25 million a year.
I would like to read a book about him by an investigative reporter or a true crime writer. He lacks credibility.
