Bush Senior Defies Republican Stereotype, Buys Chevy Volt
AutoGuide.com ^ | March 31, 2012

Who would have thought it? Given the flack the Chevy Volt has received at Republican hands over the last few months, former Republican president George H. W. Bush dealt the Volt attackers a serious blow, deciding to purchase one of GM’s extended range electric cars.

The Volt, which has become a symbol of all that’s wrong with the Obama administration according to a number of conservatives, might finally be getting a break. In addition to Bush Sr.’s purchase of a Volt (for his son Neil), there’s growing sentiment among the right that the car might not be that bad after all.

Trying to stereo type conservatives out of fuel efficient cars is wrong, most of us live within our means, and some of us even drive small cars to do that.

Heck, remove the “bailout surcharge” and the AFL-CIO surcharge to cut the price in half, retain the $7000 tax rebate and then I’d buy one.

Yeah, I am with you. Perfection is impossible....no one except Christ can claim that quality. Bush would’ve been better than Clinton in 1992....

I think sometimes our demand for the perfect keeps us from getting the good....and we end up with the very, very bad.

Ever since he lost the nomination to Reagan in 1980.Bush has been chaffing at the bit to show which side he is really on. The tax deal he cut with his soul-mates that cost him re-election was him being him.

The “Volt,” however is a status symbol, a signal to his peers where his heart really is. Our upper crust are really into this global warming thing.

HW was on stage with Obama here in Texas promoting “community service” - that should tell you something about the man who coined the phrase “New World Order”!

my statement would be “Get out of my way, pathetic little electric car!”

Yep...that's my statement with my 5.7L Ford Expedition. I find those pathetic little Prius things in the left lane barely at the speed limit and refusing to move over all the time. Just seeing them makes me want to squish them.

I see he bought it for Neil. Like most folks in Denver, (especially those that had money in Silverado) George HW Bush only trusts Neil for about 50-60 miles.
See. Like most times there is really a simple answer.

"there’s growing sentiment among the right that the car might not be that bad after all."

It's a piece of cr@p. The battery holds the energy equivelent of ONE GALLON of gasoline. Who would buy a car with a ONE GALLON gas tank?

Did anyone notice they have taken off the Volt commercial where the guy says that for going uphill "The battery powered generator kick is"? Maybe the gasoline powered generator, but why would you use a battery to turn a generator? If I didn't know better, I would say Obama wrote to commercial.

What a colossal disappointment the Bush Gang is...Only Larua has any standing with me...She was a great first lady. GW loved the military but the other things they seem to stand for leave people scratching their heads.

They are more of the same...RINO elites. Sad.

The latest stunt by a Bush to show the world that they are in sync with big government Democrats.

Someone tell the morons at Autoguide.com that Bush Sr. was never a conservative.

Worst thing Ronald Reagan did was to choose Bush as his running mate, thereby setting up the Bush machine. Had Reagan picked Paul Laxalt, he would have chosen a conservative who might have carried on his legacy--and George Bush would only be a name known only by graduate students studying political science or American history.

Rep. Bob Dornan (R-Calif)--aka "B-1 Bob"--said that he pleaded with Bush to stop using the expression "New World Order" because it "drives conservatives crazy."

“Moderate” is not the right word to describe raising taxes and signing the ADA.

“Stupid” would be a better word, but “liberal” is pretty much a synonym.
