Justice Sonia Sotomayor's Shocking Ignorance
American Thinker ^ | March 31, 2012 | Jason Lee, M.D.

Posted on 03/31/2012 10:49:09 AM PDT by jazusamo

The liberal Supreme Court justices have demonstrated profound and shocking ignorance of the American health care system. Here's one of the most jarring examples:

"What percentage of the American people who took their son or daughter to an emergency room and that child was turned away because the parent didn't have insurance," asked Sotomayor, "... do you think there's a large percentage of the American population that would stand for the death of that child -- (who) had an allergic reaction and a simple shot would have saved the child?"

I have a precise answer for Justice Sonia Sotomayor.

The percentage of American people who took their son or daughter to an emergency room and were turned away because the parent didn't have insurance is exactly zero.

No person, whether American or not, is ever turned away from an emergency room for lack of health insurance. Ever.

This simply does not happen.

Here's why:

1. It's illegal.

~snip~

It's disheartening to note that Justice Sonia Sotomayor, as profoundly ignorant as she is, will be making a monumental decision about a 2,700 page health care law. Justice Sotomayor needs to have a talk with her brother.

Oh please! If dying children were being turned away from emergency rooms that is all we would hear about 24 to 7. The MSM would screech so loud they would send the rest of us to the emergency room with busted eardrums.

During oral argunment, Sotomayor also incorrectly referred to McCulloch v. Maryland as a commerce clause case. It is not. McCulloch is the second case that every law student learns in Constitutional Law in their first year of law school, right after Marburry v. Madison. She must have been absent that day.

Negative-IQ'd 0b0z0 has to hire dumb and dumber people. The only required qualification is diverse communists.

It sounds as if she were absent a lot of days. Can you imagine what the other Justices on the court must think of her, even the liberals?

True. It is possible the republicans don't really want to win. Though it is an incredible investment -- to dump the millions into Romney they have after he came up a third place loser to McCain, ultimately a loser himself -- with the expectation of a loss.

America is going the way of Europe and by the time people finally wake up, it'll be far too late.

This has already happened. We are just playing it out. The election of this American hating muzzie sealed the fate of this nation.

With due respect to Dr. Lee, the Justice's ignorance of health care is not nearly as dangerous to liberty as her lack of knowledge of the Constitution's limits on the role of government--Legislative, Executive, and Judiciary.

Is there not film of her Duke conference remark that the "court of appeals is where policy is made," and then adding, "I know I shouldn't have said that, but . . . ."?

If the Justices get "into the weeds" of the so-called "Affordable Health Care" legislation by such suppositions, ignorant or informed, then they are not adhering to their constitutional assignment as interpreters of the principles of the Constitution.

The Framers of America's Constitution would understand that such an act is not, and never was, about health care. It is about accumulations of power in the hands of arbitrary "rulers," including elected officials, bureaucrats and others whose role is to exert coercive power over the citizens.

Today's Justices should have understood that when the Trojan Horse called "health care reform" and various other appealing titles was introduced.

They are citizens, as well as Justices, and if they want future generations to honor them as advocates for liberty, their opinions must not insult the lofty aims of the Constitution's Preamble.

Hopefully, they will value the opinions of future generations more than accolades from a faction of so-called "progressives" who wish to separate America from its foundations in the enduring ideas of liberty, "changing" it back into Old World ideas from which it came.

Michelle Obama speech , 2011 Obama re-election fund raiser:

..“We stand at a fundamental crossroads for our country. You’re here because you know that in just 13 months, we’re going to make a choice that will impact our lives for decades to come … let’s not forget what it meant when my husband appointed those two brilliant Supreme Court justices … let’s not forget the impact that their decisions will have on our lives for decades to come.”

She KNOWS the answer is zero.
She’s trying to manipulate the press and the other justices.

Though it is an incredible investment -- to dump the millions into Romney they have

It's not like they are spending their own money!

It's all donations. The only way they can legally use it is to spend it on their own salaries and the salaries and fees of their cronies as part of a campaign effort.

I think if Obama nominated Sandra Fluke as his next Supreme Court nominee the current worthless US Senate would not be able to stop the nomination.

Obama:

“We need somebody who’s got the heart, the empathy, to recognize what it’s like to be a young teenage mom,’’ then-candidate Obama said in a widely quoted speech to Planned Parenthood in 2007.

"The empathy to understand what it's like to be poor, or African American, or gay, or disabled, or old. And that's the criteria by which I'm going to be selecting my judges."

In other words, they wouldn’t even try.

Well, the “poseur” known as the POTUS, nominated a featherweight to the SCOTUS in order to secure the latina vote in America.
An impossibility IMO. If you ask somebody off of the street to name the sitting SCOTUS justices you'll rarely have any of them get named. People simply don't know who they are.

Her nomination was to ensure liberal claptrap, like the health care law, stayed law...nothing more.
JMO and YMMV.

Thank you-I have a very thick skin, and I realize the rhetoric in the media is enough to piss off a priest, but when we generalize about groups of people, it only divides us and makes us look as intolerant as the left.

You make good points and yes there is video of her court of appeals remark starting at about 30 seconds.

Sonia Sotomayor: Courts make policy full clip

I believe Dr. Lee was appalled at the ignorance shown by her because that is a fact known by a very large majority of common people, I'd guess every other Justice on the court was aware of it.

Like obammy she was a quota boy. Went through life and school as a result of set asides.
Was she the best at her position? NO, but she fit the needed quota.
Is this a f-ed system or what?
