MTP 4-1-12 Harold Ford Jr schools Mika B on Capitalism

Calling for higher taxes may bring applause at partisan political events, but it won't lower energy prices."

I think all of the above energy strategy that Tom laid out and that the president articulates at times is not altogether pursued. Take for example the vote in the Senate last week. The deductions enjoyed by the oil companies are enjoyed by all U.S. manufacturers. So to single out oil companies at a time in which gas prices are high, in which our U.S. domestic industry, or to say domestic oil industry...

MS. BRZEZINSKI: Eighty billion in profits.

FMR. REP. FORD JR.: Right. But understand, Mika, doesn't, that doesn't go to a guy named ExxonMobil. There are people who work there, there are shareholders of the company.

MS. BRZEZINSKI: Mm-hmm.

FMR. REP. FORD JR.: We don't complain when other large U.S. companies do well. As a matter of fact, we applaud them, as we should. Apple, one of the great...

FMR. REP. FORD JR.: I'm saying if you believe, I believe in the free market system. I'm a Democrat that believes in lowering taxes and creating opportunities for innovation to flourish and growth to flourish. The difference I have with the president on this issue is we may bring an applause line at, at an event, but it's not going to advance the cause of lowering gas prices. And ultimately I think what I want to see the president do is to get re-elected. And finally, if give a choice between pursuing a broader and smarter, I believe, domestic exploration, energy exploration vs. importing oil from our enemies, I'd much rather take the former because it saves our foreign policy and saves...(unintelligible).

It doesn’t matter what Ford says. He’ll still vote for Obama even though he spouts the proper economic philosophy. He’ll still vote for the socialist....

As everyone should know by now, the 99%’s demand for higher taxes on the wealthy (including evil Big Oil) has nothing to do with lowering prices or raising revenues.

It’s all about FAIRNESS (which is the Left’s euphemism for ENVY).

I agree with you, but consider if he had beaten Nancy Pelosi for Speaker of the House way back during Bush’s second term. I know he’s not one of us, but the damage done would have been so much less!

Actually I was torn when they were competing because he’s attractive, articulate and not a Chicago thug and I was afraid he’d become our president. Sigh.

The only people who could applaud higher taxes are self-perceived beneficiaries of same or those that have enough tax shelters and lawyers to allow them to keep their opulent wealth.

What's the old saying???? "Businesses do not pay taxes, their customers do."

Taxes, cost of materials, costs of processing, cost of delivery, cost of labor for all businesses are added up not just for oil companies, but all companies. They then add their markup (profit) and that's the sales price to the customer. When you raise their taxes (or any other cost) they have to pass it on to their customers......or go out of business.

So what Obama is really saying when he wants to take away the "subsidy" being paid to the oil companies, what he really is trying to do is raise our prices at the pump (to European levels).

The essence of the DEMOCRAP Party is practicing the politics of FEAR, DIVISION, and HATRED!

There is a coup going on in Washington to overthrow our government and the Republican leaders are afraid the press might criticize them if they publically state that fact. Even the Talk Show Hosts won't mention it!

Lolz. Junior b-slaps Mika as if she really IS so stupid as to believe that there really IS a Mr. ExxonMobile.

I think Junior's either positioning himself for an always-looking-for-a-government position Ford-family member or...

he's telegraphing to Obama that he needs to "drop the pose."

If it's the latter and Obama does so--in positioning himself against his foe in the general--it's to blur the differences in basic economic and energy policies...

as does evil always sidle up to good.

He had one of the most liberal voting records in the House.

Same old Jr., panders to bipartisanship on the talk circuit but always voted with the extreme left.

He was supposed to be “Obama” four years before Obama, having delivered the keynote address the same as The Won did four years after him.
