While flipping through the channels tonight to catch the election coverage, I caught one of the liberal talking heads commenting on the tornadoes here in Texas. He made a point to emphasize that most Texans don't believe in climate change. It was obvious from his sneering demeanor that we're a bunch of yahoos and that our payback for this form of "ignorance" is coming in the form of these weather disasters.
Liberalism truly is a form of clinical insanity but it's also filled with hatred. So much for tolerance, eh?
I was surprised to find a continuously-updating radar pic on this thread, a few posts up ...... wonder if that is what's taking so much bandwidth. That and the big expanded screen-dump graphic from this afternoon higher up.

Nice choice, but Gary Polland's and David Whatshisface's show on Houston PBS (KUHT) has already put it out there that Dewhurst is the lead-pipe shoo-in among all thinking, politically literate "conservatives". (As in, RiNO's like them.)

My house was built in 1970 and I've identified three or four shortcuts used in construction, a couple of which I've been required to rectify at a cost of something around $35,000, not allowing for other storm and water damage. Including piering (slab-on-grade stinks, but all the builders do it incessantly, even in Houston where sensitive clay soils are a problem), which required just about every load-bearing beam to be supported and leveled, after 20 years of summer droughts and subsoil dewatering by 50-foot water oaks (which each pull about 60 gallons of water a day).
At least the builders didn't yet have aluminum-cored wiring available when my place was built.
There's plenty to criticize in homebuilding methods, and the weaknesses tend to show up in storms and floods.

The response that I got from Clara Lou did come as a surprise since I'm not an argumentative type and I saw nothing inflammatory in my remarks -- just a statement of what I perceive as facts regarding home construction quality when illegals are the laborers.
I believe that Clara Lou and I have exchanged some nice pleasantries a few months ago since we're both supporters of Speaker Newt Gingrich so there's not a history of any ill-feelings. Perhaps the response was actually intended for some other participant? By the way, that's one of the reasons why I quote the poster to whom I'm responding. It helps ensures that my reply is really to the right person.
In any event, those of us here in North Texas are thankful that there were evidently no lives lost during these widespread storms. And while we do appreciate the blessings of the much-needed rain associated with this weather front , we're glad the tornadoes have moved out of the region.

LG -- since you're a student of, well, just about everything, I couldn't help but think of the infamous Lordstown, Ohio GM plant when I read your post.
To this day, it remains one of the chief exhibits of shoddy workmanship. Of course, it was run under the thumb of the UAW which blithely looked the other way as substandard vehicles came off the assembly line.
There are well-documented instances of the workers just halting mid-weld when the shift whistle blew. Sabotage was rampant by the unionized employees as well as physical intimidation against the supervisors. The rightly-mocked Vega was one of the product lines that came from the Lordstown plant.

Yeah, we had 2 of them evidently just down the road in Pantego but I don’t think thy touched the ground. Some houses around Martin HS was bad.

I rented one of those once, while my car was in the paint shop. I thought it was the worst car I'd ever driven ("power by Kenmore", I told someone -- that's what it sounded like when you called for acceleration), and it was -- until I rented a Group D car from National at AlbuTurkey Interplanetary < /s >. They talked about Mustangs on the phone (this was 1981, when the Mustang base model was a four-banger puking out an awesome 88 horsepower), and when they stuck me with an Olds Omega front-drive car, I asked, wait, is THIS what you call a "compact"? The smartass at the National desk laughed, "you were expecting a Mustang, right?" I brought the car back after it started raining during a trip over to Acoma Pueblo and I turned the car around after it displayed distinct unwillingness to drive in a straight line on wet pavement. I checked the front tires and found the reason why -- the front rubber would barely pass inspection, although the rears were okay. Front drive, GM's CAFE solution: alignment problems, maldistribution of weight, plowing, accelerated tire wear, accelerated front-suspension and spindle wear, and the buyer none the wiser while the jolly GM salesman rolled him off the lot with it, only to find out what Roger Smith hath wrought, later on. Worst. POS. Ever. Even worse than that sucky Vega. Just amazing.
I took the Omega back to the desk, reamed them royally about sending me out with worn and dangerous tires, and got a free upgrade to a 1980 Malibu Classic. Two days later, I damn near disappeared with that Malibu on unimproved clay roads that led in and out of Chaco Canyon, after a sudden thundershower -- but if I'd been in that Omega still, I'd never have been heard from again. The Navajos would have found my bleaching bones 12, 15 years later when they cleaned out their ditches.
