They know their membership won’t vote lockstep for a guy who is killing them.
What some may say public will differ from what they do in a closed voting booth. Not the Union Leadership, but the line workers who get their hands dirty for living. Not all, probably not the majority, but a strong percentage are not dumb, they just have always lived and worked in that area.
