Romney opens lead in Santorum's backyard
Mitt Romney Leads In New Pennsylvania Poll ^ | 04/05/2012 | Doug Mataconis

Two days after losing three more primaries, Rick Santorum appears to be in trouble in his home state:

Mitt Romney’s taken the lead in PPP’s newest poll of Rick Santorum’s home state of Pennsylvania. Romney has 42% to 37% for Santorum with Ron Paul at 9% and Newt Gingrich at 6%. The numbers represent a dramatic turnaround from when PPP polled the state a month ago. Romney’s gained 17 points, going from 25% to 42%. Meanwhile Santorum’s dropped 6 points from 43% to 37%, for an overall swing of 23 points in the last four weeks.

Santorum is up only 1.7 points on a national average. In his home state, where he was recently up by 15 points on the average. He is trending down and has been over the last 2 weeks.

If Santorum does not win PA by a considerable margin, even if it is close, it is game over. (By all realistic terms, it already is over whether you like it or not.)

Don't blame me, blame your candidate and the real world. Reality does not chose sides. It is what it is, so deal with it.

McCain was at least pro-life and a war hero. But I didn’t vote for him, I voted for Sarah. I will not pull the lever for the abortionist/socialist big government RINO Romney. And I don’t care who he selects as a running mate. Never again.

FUMTR!! FUGOP!!

There are alot of people who do like him, and know that he’d make a fine president.

Pennsylvanians have been used by the Democrats for years. They were the ones who turned PA voters against Rick, who has high ratings from Conservative groups.

So what do they think of Romney? Since PA is blue, they love Obama, and would like Romney.

I will be totally honest with you... I think that this has been the weakest and most lame slate of candidates the gop has ever fielded...

Oh, you'll get no argument from me. I agree completely, though 2008 wasn't very strong either. But to paraphrase Don Rumsfeld, you fight with the army you have.

Although sometimes, I think those of us of a certain age were spoiled by Reagan.

Every candidate, including Romney, has weaknesses. The very fact that Santorum came to this level after everyone said he couldn’t win one state, makes a big statement. There are alot of states yet to vote. The race isn’t even half over.

Don’t fall for the “he can’t win” line.

Go Rick!

I agree.

I'm not trying to be tunnel-visioned, or intractably stubborn, or "taking my toys and going home". It's just that, over the past forty years, the trend has not been good. This is especially true for social conservatives, of whom the establishment demands their votes, but not their values; of whom they try to instill fear by warning that the other options are worse; or who delight in telling us that we have nowhere else to go.

Well, we no longer fear. The warned-against liberalism is now in our own party. We have been played.

I stated in an earlier post on another thread that, although I am one of the longest term Santorum supporters on this site (perhaps the longest term supporter), that I will not vote for Romney even if Santorum is his VP pick.

The handbasket is headed for the cesspool at the bottom of the slippery slope, and Democrats and Republicans alike are taking turns driving. Some are already hip deep in the cesspool at the bottom of the slope saying, "You know, it really doesn't smell that bad after all."

I may be drug into the cesspool, but I will not willingly jump in. I will sell my soul for a reduction in marginal tax rates, or any other 30 pieces of silver.

I will not vote for Mitt Romney.

He is taking a break for EASTER. Can you imagine him or any candidate stumping on Easter?

Oops. That should be "I will not sell my soul for a reduction in marginal tax rates, or any other 30 pieces of silver."

Never.

The race isn’t even half over. Santorum, unlike Newt, hasn’t bankrupted his campaign. Every candidate make gfaws, because they are speaking extemporaniously. Rick hasn’t made any major ones. The country deserves and needs a real Conservative with solid plans to bring jobs and the economy back, as well as the foreign policy know-how. Rick has all that. He gets high marks from Conservative groups.

Do you want someone who pledged he wouldn’t go after Obama? Or someone who will take Obama on?

At one point in the Wisconsin vote, he was up in 4 of the 8 counties. I’d like to see the Provisional and Absentee vote count in all races. Might not be like some think. I’ll never vote Absentee again.

I hope Rick doesn’t throw in the towel, even if he loses in PA, which isn’t certain.

It is amazing that so many are lining up behind Romney, especially when he his staff made the vow to destroy Rick. Sure wish more people could critically think, rather than go along with the flock.

I plan on making calls for Santorum. Doesn’t matter where you are, you can be a part.

I understand that. But Santorum has not only done so early, but had his campaign announce that they were "retooling". That's never a good sign. And yes, I can easily imagine a candidate stumping on Easter - the one in the White House.

Specter isn’t running. Santorum is pro-life, always has been. You should really find out what his platform is, because you clearly don’t.

The people of PA fell for the Democrat attacks hook, line, sinker, and pole. People should find out why things took place, then they wouldn’t think they way they are. Luckily there are some voters, according to some polls like Rasmussen, that show they know the truth, and are voting for Rick.

It is not an “insane obsession to stay in the race”. He has a chance since the race isn’t even half over. “Insane obsession” would be Ron Paul.

How is he a hypocrite? Conservative groups give him a high rating.

Mr. R...the s#it is starting to be slung by the deep pocketed RINO here in PA. The chilling part in Myth’s campaign is he WILL NOT go after “nice guy, but he is just in over his head” Obama THE WAY HE IS GOING AFTER SANTORUM!

Obamney see the true enemy—true evil—as true conservatism (no matter whose face is on it). I am waiting for Romney to tell us “we have nothing to fear from four more years of Obama...”

I can only respond by saying I feel sorry and will pray for you, no matter what you choose to do. As another religious person, I must follow my own heart and soul, and do everything legally possible to see that Barack Hussein Obama is defeated, even if the winner is a blind monkey, with one hand tied behind his back!!!

God bless and protect you. I fear you will need his divine intervention as the future unfolds and the real tyrant in Obama’s heart emerges, as it surely will!!!

The primary is when you vote for the candidate you want to.

The general election is when you vote for the candidate you have to!

It’s funny how Romney is getting the 3rd degree for being a RINO when in fact, McCain was an uberRINO far beyond what Romney is. Romney 2012 is a better candidate than McCain 2008; it’s a low bar, I know, but it says something, and that something is that all this bluster about how bad Romney is, well, its hyperbole. we really are forgetting about how RINO-ish and doltish Ford, Dole and McCain were

What a bunch of crap.

Did John McCain implement or even support Gay Marriage?

Did John McCain ever vote for the level of tax increases/or fees that Romney implemented, a 300% increase?

Did John McCain ever force or support Gay Adoption?

When has John McCain ever supported Abortion at the level that Romney has?

Romney is the complete and uber liberal Republican, and FAR exceends McCain in the Progressive Liberal arena, and I detest McCain.

Why do you GOP-E stooges come here and bespoil a great website with the garbage?
