I didn't do any of the illegal street-racing thing.

Good! You had good sense, unlike my group of jerks.
Lost a friend who didn't make a curve because of it.
Still think about him, 22 years old when he bought it 43 years ago.

Starting me thinking with better sense, think all of us did.

Lost some friends myself, but to motorcycle accidents. A coworker wiped out on a curve in Griffith Park in Southern California and
smashed into a tree and died at the scene. He was 19. That was 40 years ago, and I'm still sad.

Another friend went over a cliff on his bike taking a corner too fast.

One of the guys who raced professionally and used to ride with us amateurs on Sundays smashed up his Ducati and himself in Malibu.

Yes, those of us who are left behind gain a sense of our own mortality, that is for sure.
