There is a lot of context I ignored. I apologize. There was nothing funny about Hitler, but I still find his current day apologists simultaneously risible and despicable.

At some point the historical similarities between German National Socialism and the central-planning nation state US “liberals” are building will become so unmistakable, I fully expect the left itself, to proactively rehabilitate Hitler in some way.

This could be a first indication of that.

The left is already acting like him. Only a matter of time, before they embrace him.

No apology needed. You just didn’t know.

Someone should start a ping list to keep track of what universities are doing.

(NOT volunteering. Two ping lists are enough)

Hitler did lots of ‘good’ things up until around 1938, particularly from the German point of view.

Requires a mindset which doesn't consider Jews, homosexuals, the retarded and mentally ill, and particularly political opposition non-German. Presuming preparation for war is a good thing. I'd suggest he did very little good for Germany, other than assuring their name may well be remembered for a millenia.

I’ve no issue with the article concept but if the student attributed as author wasn’t “in on it,” there’s a big problem

Yes, the article itself is at best sophmoric humor, and doesn't really cross any lines. Misattribution, and the reasons for that aren't clear but likely not accidental, are a different thing.

Sounds uncomfortably similar to the way “liberals” view us.

Click Spring, 2012. It's still there, though not very good satire.

I know it was printed in a ‘satire’ news paper but this is so offensive it goes deeper than just being stupider unthoughtful. Rutgers has in recent years been very pro-Palestinian and has given the Jewish on campus a hard time.... I think that context needs to be remembered as well

I suspect that has something to do with the choice of "author". As satire, they could have used Winston Churchill or FDR, but chose to use a non public figure. Not that anyone would believe it, but they could have used the bears no relationship... caveat, but that would kill using the students picture.

I hope the Jewish student sues the student newspaper for defamation and identity theft. I cannot think of anything more despicable than what was done to him.

Identity theft, interesting idea. With the picture, it's pretty clear. Haven't a clue if that takes it from the civil to criminal realm.

Perhaps someone on the Homeschooling ping list can volunteer to start a college ping list, with not only the bad universities, but the good ones (including the faith-based colleges). I’m sure that one might volunteer if well-versed on the topic.

To say Hitler did nothing but evil is to misunderstand the nature of evil. Evil is a parasite. Evil cannot exist on its own, but rather it is a cancer that feeds off and destroys the good. Thus where good can exist without evil, evil can never exist without good to feed off and corrupt.

Hitler rose to power because he addressed some basic needs of a large number of Germans. Some of what he did had to be good, in order to gain sufficient trust and support among the German populace to exercise power. Only then could he unleash the great evils that drove the Nazi ideology.

To believe that Hitler was always a monster, and never anything but, is to commit the error that gave rise to him in the first place.

I respectfully disagree. Almost nothing Hitler did was objectively productive. He was a bully and a thug. He stole from some and gave to others. To attribute economic growth or output to Hitler is to discount what would have resulted (and how much better it would have been employed) in his absence.

For instance, Hitler drove out Germany’s most productive and creative people, distorted and debased their educational system, fought the churchs, channeled economic activity into military production. Nazis did not create, they stole from the productive to feed a monster.

I don’t usually do this kind of thing, but I emailed rmiskoff@rci.rutgers.edu and board of governors communication professor James Katz jk@rci.rutgers.edu

“Professor Ronald Miskoff, who is one of the editors of The Daily Medium newspaper, defended the decision to run the piece arguing that you don’t need permission for parody.

He told The Right Views that the piece had been written under Aaron Marcus’ name because he was a writer for the University’s rival paper – The Daily Targum.

Whoa. Come on now. Let's not be so judgmental. You overlook the very pertinent fact the Hitler was the best Military Commander that ....the Allies had!

'We' had many chances and opportunities to: whack, kill, 'assassinate' - 'remove' him. But he was such a friggen bonehead that he helped kill more of his own troops that we ever could on our own. IIRC it was Churchill who first said he was 'off limits' and then FDR concurred.

Up until Czechoslovakia he got lucky. Then like all megalomaniacs he thought he was the smartest man alive and completely invincible, so then he pushed for more. Kind of how Barry's been pushing and pushing and pushing. So far he's been lucky too. But pushing SCOTUS will be his 'Poland' (awwww sh_t) moment.

Then again, Uncle Adolph did like dogs and little children, so that's on his plus side.
(HUGH sarcasm)

[if you couldn't tell]

P.S. If you have not seen it already, there is an excellent documentary (available from Netflix) called “Blind Spot: Hitler’s Secretary”. It features over an hour of footage from an interview with Traudl Junge, the youngest of Hitler’s personal secretaries who type his last will and was present when he committed suicide.

Breaking her silence 50 years after the events of WWII, she offers deep insight into how Germans could have been seduced by Hitler. In fact, one of the reasons she did the interview is because of the guilt she felt for having been so close to him and not recognized at the time how evil he was. She wanted future generations to help future generations avoid the same mistake.

Here’s an excerpt:

****************

“I was 22 and I didn’t know anything about politics, it didn’t interest me”, Junge said, adding that she felt guilty for “...liking the greatest criminal ever to have lived.”

“I admit, I was fascinated by Adolf Hitler. He was a pleasant boss and a fatherly friend. I deliberately ignored all the warning voices inside me and enjoyed the time by his side almost until the bitter end. It wasn’t what he said, but the way he said things and how he did things.”

It’s only in retrospect, after the war, that she began to understand just how evil he was, and how she had been seduced by his charms.

You said: “Nazis did not create, they stole from the productive to feed a monster.”

And on that we are agreed. Like every other great evil or parasite, Naziism would eventually destroy its host.

I disagree. There are some cultural marxists who actually support Obama’s policies, and don’t just vote for him because of his charms.

Rutgers University are investigating

The English invented our goofy language but why do they consider Rutgers University plural? Is it because Rutgers ends in s?
