What Trayvon Martin’s tweets say about him
Miami Herald ^ | 4.08.2012 | Deborah Acosta

A review of the account, which has since been taken down, portrays a typical teenager with a sense of humor and a preoccupation with girls. He is sometimes vulgar when discussing sex, and he often quotes explicit song lyrics.

At times it’s difficult to discern what’s a song lyric and what’s not. How many of Trayvon’s tweets can be taken as literal is up for grabs.

There are certain things that can be gleaned about Trayvon from his tweets:

He loved the films Friday, starring Ice Cube and Chris Tucker, and Next Friday, both of which poke fun at street culture. He posted YouTube clips from the films.

When questioned by police, Martin didn’t know how that stuff got into his backpack.

Actually, Martin said the fourteen women's rings and sets of earrings, and the woman's watch, belonged to a friend. However, he refused to identify that friend.

That stash was found when Martin and some friends were caught on surveillance cameras putting graffiti on lockers. When school security caught him, they went through his backpack thinking they would find whatever was used to put the graffiti on the lockers (none of the stories i read said if they were looking for spray paint, a paint marker, a Sharpie, or something else).

That's when they found the flat-head screwdriver, which school officials called a 'burglary tool", and all of the women's jewelry.

I take my post back. I had no idea Zimmerman had been arrested.

“I believe that Zimmerman was destined for such an encounter.”

Actually there are a lot of neighborhoods in many areas
where anyone walking outside at night for any reason is
destined for such an encounter. The difference is that most
of the time when that encounter occurs the victim is unarmed, the thug triumphs and justice is thwarted. In this
case it would appear that when it comes to choosing victims
Trayvon “chose poorly”, and paid for that poor choice.

Huh??? Thunderballer simply said “Weed use and profanity have become somewhat normal for today’s teens.” That is simple fact and can’t be denied. TB was not accepting or advocating drug use.

Hardly grounds for a “Newbie Alert” and troll accusations. Lighten up.

Still, Trayvon had nonviolent behavioral issues in school, and on the day he was killed, he had been suspended for 10 days from Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High School in North Miami-Dade. “He was not suspended for something dealing with violence or anything like that. It wasn’t a crime he committed, but he was in an unauthorized area [on school property],” Martin said, declining to offer more details.

We saw this quote (which says "Martin" when it's apparently referring to Krop) repeated countless times in the media by supporters of Martin before it was reported that he was actually suspended for having a marijuana pipe and an empty (?) baggie of marijuana.

First, I think his pipe and baggie are irrelevant to the Zimmerman shooting.

However, what's not irrelevant is that his principal or a teacher lied to the press, trying to paint Martin in a positive light. No, Dr. Krop, Marting wasn't suspended for being in an unathorized area. When you were quoted, people on FR said 'nonsense.' He was suspended because of the 'zero tolerance' rule on drug gear like the pipe.

Why did Dr. Krop feel the need to lie to the press and to polish Trayvon Marin's image over something that wasn't relevant to the shooting?

Amazing. No mention by the Miami Herald of Trayvon’s Twitter handle, No Limit N***a.

Tayvon got his handle from the name of his hero's record company, No Limit Records. Trayvon's role model was Corey Miller, aka C-Murder, a rapper who is currently doing life without parole for murdering a sixteen-year-old at a Louisiana night club in 2002.

Trayvon chose C-Murder's mug shot as the background pic for his Twitter page.

Your reply seems rather fishy to me, although it was a good catch. You had me hooked with the picture, and I took the bait to respond.

I thought that the armed Zimmerman chose to follow Martin who was walking back to the residence of his future step mother holding a bag of Skittles and ice tea.

Interesting that you treat what Zimmerman’s father and brother said to the media as fact when neither are witnesses and an actual audio witness, Martin’s girlfriend, states to have heard something totally different.

What about the witness who expressed that Zimmerman was on top when the gun was fired and expressed the belief that it was Martin screaming for help?

What about the witness who claimed to have heard back and forth arguing before the fighting began, something that contradicts what Zimmerman’s father and brother (non-witnesses) claim?

We know that there was a scuffle. But we don’t yet know how it started and may never. But it is irresponsible to take a claim by two biased non-witnesses as fact because it supports your opinion.

I think you misread. The way I read it is Dr. Krop is the name of the school. The Martin quoted is the dad. It could simply be his locker and bag were searched after he was busted for being in an unauthorized area.

Your portrayal of Zimmerman sounds like it came straight off the DUmmy kook website. Why don’t you tell us why the budding
young thug that sucker punched Zimmerman was suspended for 10 days.

The woman who wrote this article is a piss-poor journalist as well as biased and incompetent. She completely ignored the full content’s of Martin’s tweet-site, the photo of him with his gun-holding buddy, and his criminal record.

His tweets weren’t “exposed” by an internet website, they were simply posted. Martin “exposed” his own words when he put them out in the public. If Acosta is too incompetent a reporter to find them herself, that is the Miami Herald’s problem.

Martin’s posts about “women and girls” were more than average sexual banter. They were down right ugly and degrading and threatening. Maybe they were braggadicio, but he wrote and posted them. He was responsible for them.

Acosta - nice try to cover up for Martin. You should get a job with Jay Carney and his lying press shop at the White House. You’ve certainly got the qualifications.

From an old-time reporter who was humping in Vietnam and the demonstrations in DC before you were a thought in anyone’s mind.

“Zimmerman’s assault of a police officer”

This was an Alcoholic Beverage Control Officer.

“Zimmerman — in applying to enter the citizens’ police academy — later disputed the official version of the event, insisting that the agent never identified himself. “I hold law enforcement officers in the highest regaurd [sic] as I hope to one day become. I would never have touched a police officer,” Zimmerman wrote.

Martin and Zimmerman were both imperfect people. I think the imperfections of both led to the shooting. From a legal perspective, the past hardly matters.

I think what sticks in the craw of some is the idea that Zimmerman followed Martin at all. While I believe he could do so lawfully, we citizens are expected by society to stay in our homes and wait for the cops.

By venturing forth, Zimmerman points out that the police don’t respond in a timely manner to suspicious activity, and if we stop accepting that and act ourselves, it has huge implications.

Violent crime is a black phenomenon in the US.

I don't dispute that, but the "mouth jewelry" idiocy is being copied outside that group. Some of the first websites that sold that garbage (noted and laughed at in this forum) featured pictures of white teens and young adults.

Thank you for understanding what I was saying. 40% of teens have had oral sex. More than half have smoked weed during their high school years. 60% of all Texas teens have been suspended from school at least once. 25% of all teams admit to having stolen. 64% have cheated on a test in the last year.

As you stated, the point was not of whether this is acceptable behavior, it is a point of what is common behavior in these unfortunate times. Here are articles related:
