FIVE WAYS TO REDUCE GOVERNMENT SPENDING NOW
Big Government ^ | April 8, 2012 | WYNTON HALL

Liberals like to label fiscal conservatives as the "party of no," individuals who talk spending cuts but offer little in the way of specific, realistic solutions to downsize government. . . . .

Here are just five of the many solutions they offer:

1. Block-grant all means tested welfare programs. As even the New York Times now concedes, "Perhaps no law in the past generation has drawn more praise than the drive to 'end welfare as we know it,' which joined the late-’90s economic boom to send caseloads plunging, employment rates rising and officials of both parties hailing the virtues of tough love." . . .

Starting with this ‘ FBI to Fund Interrogation Research Projects’.

A skimming god-send for research project people. IMO

Medicare total budget was 980/mo per beneficiary in 2011. Shut down Medicare.....add 490/mo to each Medicare eligible SS beneficiariary’s check/mo..which they MAY use toward purchasing a health insurance policy if they desire. Immediate, successful 50% cut in Medicare expenses.

Fight the notion that cutting government programs is taking something away from the people.
NOT GIVING is not the same as TAKING. RAISING TAXES *is* TAKING.

Congress should eliminate all spending that violates the 10th Amendment. That means that they would repeal all federal laws that mention healthcare, welfare, or education. That would cut federal spending by about 20%. Since the federal government would need less money, Congress would pass a 20% income tax rate cut, for everyone who pays a federal income tax. Since taxpayers would have lower federal tax rates, some state and local governments would change their tax rates and spending, to take care of the health, welfare, and/or education needs of their residents.

There are 76 different federal welfare programs.

MERGE THEM into a single program, dump food stamps and section 8 and free phones and make it a monthly CASH grant to the truly poor.

FIRE the other 80% of the bureaucrats. $$$ savings.
...

End all forms of corporate subsidies.

End all federal grants to non-government organizations.

End all funding of non-government crap (NPR, PBS, Planned Parenthood etc)
...

Unfortunately, our Washington politician would swallow a camel and choke on a morsel. We already have something that we can copy, if these STRUTTING PEA HENS in Washington would only check out our history. At the beginning of the Coolige administration, they were faced with the same problems that we have today. What that administration did was #1) Cut all government expenses by 50%. I mean across the board cutting. #2)Cut taxes 50%, and turned loose our inventive genusses. #3) Cut all government regulations 50%. This allowed our search of natural resources in our borders. If you noticed there was a boom in oil, minerals and everyting else. Within one year after this administration put all of this into effect, we had on hell of a boom. Then the government started putting their noses into our business again, that that is what caused the depression in the 30’s.

(I don’t know if everyone sees the same graphic for Freepathon- the animated face & hand that waves & points, but I LOVE that cartoon!!)

I don’t understand why the federal government continues to fund luxuries at a time like this. Museums, public broadcasting, endowments & foundations- all of these are very popular “pet charities” and receive a lot of funding from individuals, corporations, & other foundations and trusts. They would surely take up the slack.
And why isn’t our Congress willing to take a cut in pay? (Dumb question, I know) Almost all of them are millionaires and the ones who are, could certainly manage 10% to 20% in service to our country.
