BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- A window washer survived a 13-story plunge down the side of an Alabama hospital tower, landing in newly planted bushes and mulch, which helped break his fall, authorities said Friday.
Birmingham Fire Battalion Chief C.W. Mardis said the worker was getting onto a platform outside the building Thursday when his safety equipment malfunctioned.

Lucky guy. Can’t help but think of Liam Neeson’s (sp?) wife here.

13 stories gives you plenty of time to get creative with what you are screaming as you fall.
Lucky guy.

I once knew a man who had a fall highly similar to this. He was lucky enough to land on a car, made quite a dent in the roof but the sheet metal giving in cushioned his landing enough to survive. He was very broken up over it though.

13-story fall in Alabama? I didn’t know they made trailers that tall.

He was an optimist. After 12 stories he was overheard saying, “So far, so good.”

Ain’t no way I’d do that for any amount of money. Particularly not “free climbing”.

Impossible.
There is no 13th floor.
To: tnlibertarian
You know, that was my first thought. Then I saw it was a hospital. Hood place to fall if you fall 13 stories.
To: Maceman
I watched a little of that but had to quit or wet my pants. Y’know, I used to climb mountains and cliffs and such. Now I have trouble looking at El Capitan or Halfdome.

I used to work for a trailer manufacturer and we actually sold more trailers in Tennessee than in any other state in the union.

The hospital will probably send him a bill for breaking the new shrubs.

Ooooh, couldn’t finish watching. One of my relatives used to climb phone poles back in the day. Later in life, he suffered from a feeling of compulsion to throw himself off of high places — he was a trip to go sightseeing with. Fortunately, he did die in bed at age 80. Still...

I’m afraid to look but I have to do it. I can barely watch King Kong, I hate heights so much. My stomach starts flipping.
Oddly, for my job (reporter) I had to go on a helicopter and I thought I would be petrified, but I wasn’t. It was actually pretty neat, to see the world from that perspective.
