When the New York press corps wants to know what Gov. Andrew Cuomo has to say, on the record, it looks to Fred Dicker -- morning radio show host, New York Post columnist, and so-called "dean" of the Albany press corps. With few exceptions, Dicker, a Cuomo friendly, gets exclusive on-the-record access to the Governor's thoughts.
Now, Dicker has signed a deal to write a Cuomo biography.
Dicker is believed to have made a six-figure deal with HarperCollins, according to a report by the Post's Keith Kelly, putting him in direct competition with Vanity Fair's Michael Shnayerson, who signed his own deal with Hachette to write a Cuomo biography in January.
The difference, as any New York political reporter might expect, is that only Dicker has secured Cuomo's cooperation.
Read Kelly's full report here.
UPDATE: Cuomo spokesperson Josh Vlasto emails to confirm the administration will be cooperating with Dicker on the biography. As for Shnayerson, he writes:
"The Governor and his staff have and will continue to cooperate with several different books being published related to the administration. We make a decision on a case by case basis and no decision has been made yet on that book."
"From Father to Son - Mario to Andrew & Chartock to Dicker"
What a last name!
They are making Mario Jr. out to be the third coming of Christ. Do not be fooled; he is as liberal as his father. New York still ranks 50th in terms of being business friendly.
And Dicker is probably trolling for the press secretary job.
Carl Paladino was right about Dicker.
