In my short life on earth, I've met a lot of Catholics and Christians who say they are liberal or democrat. I've come to be puzzled by this; how can people with the same spiritual mindset have a completely different set of political beliefs? Doesn't one line up with the other? In an attempt to educate other young Christians on political views, here are a few reasons that explain why Christians are usually conservative and also how my Christian beliefs coincide with my conservative ones.
The root of my conservative beliefs stems from the state of man as a human race. After the fall of man in Genesis 3, man became evil. Man fell and the world fell with him. Man became incapable of being righteous in God's eyes without the blood of Jesus Christ (after Jesus went to the cross and paid the price for man). The problem isn't so much that Man doesn't want to be righteous; the problem is that he is incapable of being righteous. Once one understands this simple truth that Christianity holds, it is easy to see why being conservative lines up with that belief. If man is inherently evil, the objective should be to spread out and de-centralize the evil in the world; not to destroy evil but to negate its effects on ordinary people. Liberalism holds a much different view that doesn't line up with the belief that man is evil in nature. Liberals believe, basically, in a man-made kind of heaven on earth - If we all come together with a common hopes and dreams, sing Kumbya, and eat those crazy capitalists, the world will become a better and more holy place. As a Christian, I understand that this is impossible to do.

In order to be a progressive and a ‘professing Christian’ at the same time, one has to view scripture through a different lens.
Verses get cherry picked, God is less dangerous, evil and good get blended together, man is essentially good, and this world is more important than the next world.
Progressive “Christianity” is about collective salvation.
Its a dangerous thing. When we believe that we are saved and others are saved because we support forcing others to support “charity” through taxation, we risk damnation.
“I’ve met a lot of Catholics AND Christians....”
Say what? Or am I somehow reading this wrong?

They have not grown up yet.
There is a lot of truth in the phrase “If you’re a conservative when you’re 18, you have no heart; if you’re a liberal when you’re 30, you have no brains.”
For whatever reasons they have not been forced or allowed to go through the natural process of losing childlike naivete and hyper-idealism and having that tempered by reality. This is why they never understand why their ideas don’t work. They don’t think things through fully, they do not think about negative possibilities. Some leaders of liberal movements do know their ideas are bad but that’s why they push them - they have people underneath them that are ignorant, idealistic folks not in on the real agenda. Plausible deniability.
But in general, liberalism is people trapped in juvenile thinking, having been stunted in their growth mentally and logically that would normally occur to young adults as they start dealing with the rest of the world.
If you look how liberals react you will see they react like juvenile children do. They throw tantrums. They run away when they can’t get their way (WI democrat senators???). They cry foul after the other side uses a tactic they just used. Namecalling. Shouting. Getting violent with others. Trying to debate them, they don’t have logic to back up their generally hypocritical positions, so they cry, devolve into namecalling, try to change the focus of the argument, make up hysterical claims (war on women, trayvon, fluke), kick their feet, make threats.
The leftist agenda of utopianism is the desire to make men into gods. To put man in the role of creator.
Utopianism is the heart of the liberal political ideology, and it is a form of idolatry.
On the other hand, the heart of conservative political ideology is a desire to return to a Christianized culture.
Actually they say that "Thou Shalt not Kill" does not apply to Abortion because they say the unborn are not persons. They also Ignore "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you" Jeremiah 1:5.
On Homosexuality they blatantly deny that it is Adultery (as in "Thou Shalt not commit Adultery" - IE Brokeback Mountain) or Fornication.
So it's not just an interpretation but an active violation of the Scriptures that is the Liberal/Progressive mindset.
Say what? Or am I somehow reading this wrong?
Unfortunately, it is a common, erroneous, expression, I've caught it many times on F.R. and I'm not Catholic.
How simple it is to say:
Ive met a lot of Catholics and other Christians.
But all are sinners.
A christian believes that the creator of the universe, the True and the Living died for him on Calvary and accomplished his salvation there and then.
R.C.s believe that the pope is Christ vicar on earth, that they need to listen to what he say and that they need to attend the Mass to have their sins atoned for. The believe that the roman establishment is the mediator of God's grace.
They also believe that they are the universal church hence catholic, which is a title that belongs only to the true church of God hence my reluctancy to use that title.
No teaching could be as heinous to a christian as their perversion of the truth.
Papal subjection is also very dangerous and will eventually destroy any society.
