Rescue workers who raced to “Painter of Light” Thomas Kinkade’s California home on the morning he died responded to a call concerning an unconscious, 54 year-old man who had been “drinking all night,” according to a report in "The Daily."
A Santa Clara County dispatcher was recorded at 11:16 AM last Friday saying that a “54 year-old male, unconscious, not breathing. Apparently he has been drinking all night and not moving … CPR in progress.” Santa Clara County officials would not elaborate.
Kinkade was legally separated from his wife, Nanette, and the two had been living apart. Nanette and three of their daughters had traveled to Australia to visit a fourth daughter and were absent when he passed away, according to "The Daily."
Kinkade’s live-in girlfriend, Amy Pinto, 48, made the 9-1-1 call. Later, she told the "San Jose Mercury News" that Kinkade “died in his sleep, very happy, in the house he built, with the paintings he loved, and the woman he loved.”
Kinkade built one of the world’s most profitable art empires from his idyllic work, which often featured Christian themes. But his company was in bankruptcy and he had well-publicized problems with alcohol. Two years ago, he was sentenced to 10 days in jail for drunk driving.
The Los Gatos police said they had responded to several calls to his Monte Sereno house related to domestic disputes between Kinkade and his girlfriend.
An autopsy was conducted Monday, but the cause of death could take weeks to release while awaiting a toxicology report.
Thomas Kinkade left behind hundreds of unreleased paintings, sketches and writings, close friends told "The Daily."
“He has things that nobody has ever seen that are beautiful, that are absolutely beautiful,” said Linda Raasch, who had known the late painter more than 25 years.
Raasch said his personal work is mostly in the plein air style of French expressionism — quick paintings that capture the ambiance of the light and air — in contrast to his more popular, highly-detailed renditions of bucolic settings, "The Daily" reported.
“He was brilliant, he was beyond talented. Far beyond what the public has ever seen,” Raasch said.
The Kinkade Company, which licenses and distributes his work, has not decided how it will reveal his unreleased work, a spokesman said.
Not the “Painter of Light” but the Drinker of Bud Light.

By having a .48 and not dying, tells me that you are not an amateur drinker, you are truly a professional!
Those $1,000 prints will go up in value now. Last I heard they went for 45 bucks apiece on eBay (and nobody was buying.)

Married, live in shack-up girlfriend, drinking all night, happy, drunk driving, bankruptcy and jail time.
The girlfriend sounds like a class act. Lets see how much he loved her when the will is read.
I have a couple of kinkaid miniatures that I use as night-lights. Sorry to see that he was suffering.
The only two people I know/knew of with those kind of numbers were dead - you are very lucky, FRiend.

Nobody who is in Hollywood who claims to be a Christian really is it seems.

The bigger they are the greater the attack from our vicious, all too capable enemy, Satan. When someone becomes famous and is a known Christian most have no idea as to the extent that they become under spiritual attack. Unless someone is really blanketed with prayer, isn’t under any false teachings that cause vulnerability, is constantly reading the Bible and seeking The LORD, it is nearly impossible to come out unscathed. The average person has no idea.

He’s from Los Gatos (Monte Sereno), not Hollywood. Los Gatos is between San Jose and Santa Cruz in the central region of California.
his Christmas ornaments were spectacular....expensive- but spectacular...
I could not find where he had a .48 BAC. But if true, then almost 1/2 of his blood was Alcohol. Your heart pumps blood, it’s not a alcohol pump! Gal 6:7 Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. Truly sad.
Knowing relatively little about art, I had never heard of Mr. Kincade until his death.
This is a sad loss of an incredibly gifted man.
I have see his beautiful work in an art gallery not far from where I live.
I don’t own any of his work, only because his paintings are EXTREMELY expensive..... but IMHO, they are worth every dime.
At 54, alcohol is no longer your friend.

Bell.... I totally agree with your post. But for the grace AND mercy of a loving God...go many. He was obviously discouraged and depressed......trying to fill that void in his heart with all the wrong things. Prayers up for his family...

Actually, I tend to always lump all the famous together as Hollywood, because of the media climate. It’s dumb of me. Sorry.

My artist son loved his work and we gifted him with the prints when he was a young student in college..
I've always enjoyed the work of Kincade and am sorry to hear of his troubles..I didn't follow his PERSONAL life but did follow his art pieces...we all have problems in our personal lives...sad when you become famous and known, your private personal lives becomes others critical remarks...

If I had to look at those paintings all the time, I would drink heavily too. I know a lot of folks love his stuff, but it’s like fingers on a chalkboard to me.
I think it’s 0.48 PERCENT, not 0.48 of the
total...would work out to be about 1/200 of the blood...
still a fair amount...
wonder if foul play could be investigated, especially
since his girl friend said he was happy...usually when
someone you love suddenly dies, you would be devastated,
you don’t bust out into a Happy Eulogy.

I find this to be a profound verse. I especially like the New King James version quoted above. Seeking “WHOM” he may devour. He is especially seeking out those who make it easy for him. Those that may have fallen away from their faith. Drunkenness, adultery, etc., makes you an easy target.

I agree. This isn’t to speak ill of the man, I know nothing about him, but his work was repellent to me.
But, hey...that is what art is all about. If someone likes a piece of art, then it has value, at least to that person, and it doesn’t really matter what anyone else thinks.
Likewise. I grew up being educated in the fine arts. The first time I saw one of his paintings, it struck me as appealing to pop culture- pretty paintings, but certainly not art. It’s great people love it and it makes them happy, but please don’t call it “art.”

I remember seeing a lot of Nagel prints back in the 80s, but I swear I didn’t know he was dead. I thought he’d just made a ton of money and retired.
But I'm fairly certain it was from choking while passed out, not from direct alcohol poisoning.

And you’ve had how many art appreciation courses at the college level? I criticized no one for liking them. Did I say they lacked value? They obviously have value to the people that enjoy them. I don’t consider them “art.” I consider them pretty pictures the stuff of which greeting cards and puzzles are made. That somehow makes me a snob? When people better educated than me hang them in major galleries across the world, then I’ll concede his paintings rise to the level of art. As has been pointed out, his work is kitsch.
So he died of progressive alcoholism, it would appear. I think this happens more often than is generally realized.
