Baseball-sized hail is tearing the siding off homes in northeast Nebraska, a tornado has touched down in Kansas and forecasters are warning residents across the nation's midsection to brace for "life threatening" storms.
The National Weather Service says a rain-wrapped tornado touched down in southwest Kansas on Saturday afternoon, while at least three possible tornadoes were reported earlier in central Oklahoma.
No injuries were immediately reported. But forecasters are expecting the most dangerous weather later in the day and are warning residents across the region of possible fast-moving tornadoes overnight.
Officials say a large area spanning from Minnesota to Texas could be at risk.
In Nebraska, Boone County Sheriff David Spiegel says large hail also damaged vehicles and shattered windows in and around Petersburg, about 140 miles northwest of Omaha.

No, he didn’t, he just supported taxpayer-funded abortion, expensive socialized medicine, homosexual marriage, raising taxes and fees including fees on gun owners enormously, etc. Romney was much more successful at implementing a liberal agenda in his jurisdiction than Obama has been.
Please be safe!
Small town of Conway Springs KS probably just got some rough weather, seems to be heading for Wichita environs next.
The Weather Channel guy was broadcasting from their command center when they set off the sirens.
And put a dog on a car.
This was just posted on Facebook by “Texas Storm Chasers”
Statement from the Wichita Tornado Warning. This is very serious.
IMPACT...THIS IS A LIFE THREATENING SITUATION. YOU COULD BE KILLED IF
NOT UNDERGROUND OR IN A TORNADO SHELTER. COMPLETE
DESTRUCTION OF ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOODS IS LIKELY. MANY WELL
BUILT HOMES AND BUSINESSES WILL BE COMPLETELY SWEPT FROM
THEIR FOUNDATIONS. DEBRIS WILL BLOCK MOST ROADWAYS. MASS
DEVASTATION IS HIGHLY LIKELY MAKING THE AREA UNRECOGNIZABLE
TO SURVIVORS.
appears to be tracking just South of Wichita, but one jog to the North and we could see mass devastation. This is going to be a close one. Hopefully it sticks to the farms.
Could be. She didn’t repeat before I had to change channels.
The Weather Channel says the Wichita tornado is up to half a mile wide. I’m afraid this could be like Joplin, Missouri last year. I am in Topeka right now waiting.
