Gun sales increase across the state, nation
kvue ^ | April 14, 2012 | ASHLEY GOUDEAU and JUSTIN TERRY

The trend is not only happening in Texas, but around the nation. The National Shooting Sports Foundation says 11 million firearms were sold in the U.S. in the last year. The FBI also conducted 16.5 million firearm background checks in 2011. That's nearly two million more than in 2010, and double the amount from 2001.

The big question is why? Store owners say gun sales typically increase during an election year, but this year there's more to it.

I found a tiny little Taurus .380 for $199 at Academy today.

Which one? The one on 183? I need one to stick in my pocket on my walks. Seen too many coyotes lately out here in Lago.

"much to my surprise, he's largely sat on the sidelines as President"

Fast & Furious was Hussein's program, but his peons got caught in the act when agent Brian Terry was killed.
President Hussein Obama is not sitting on the sidelines.

Oh! If you can find a Beretta 92 for that price, jump on it.
Awesome and very reliable weapon.

But I wish that helmets, body armor, and LBE sales were going up as well.

Good site for civilian armor.

Yes, the whole idea of Fast and Furious was to push gun control.

The irritating thing is most so called conservatives still call it a botched sting when it was no such thing.

He’s also stopped the import of Korean War era rifles from Korea.

Yes, I do recall a shipment of Garands being blocked, largely at the behest of collectors who didn't want to see their rifles lose value in the market flooding that would've taken place. This isn't really a ban though. You can still legally buy Garand rifles. They just cost a lot. Don't get me wrong, I have no doubt Obama would love to engage in a gun-banning frenzy if he felt it was worth the massive amount of political capitol he'd have to expend.

Honestly, I'm concerned about Romney when it comes to guns. Unlike Obama, Romney actually has a demonstrable record of signing gun-banning legislation into law. Realistically though, the gun control movement seems to be dead. Liberals learned back in '94 that enacting gun control legislation brings huge electoral consequences while having very little impact on the availability of guns or any measurable reduction in public safety. In short, it's just not worth it. We'd have to enact Britain-style confiscation measures for gun control laws to have any effect and this simply will not happen in America.

And on the subject of guns, I've been pining for a Ruger Mini-14. I don't know why. I just find them aesthetically pleasing.

I went to a gun show in Dallas today and it was packed. Got some spare mags, ammo, and a new front handgrip for my AR. Oh, also got a new Gonzales flag (Come and Take It) ball cap as well.

The Tanner Gun Show in Denver last month was PACKED! I found 2 Beretta 92FS mags and one Springfield XDM .45ACP mag. Can't wait to go this month.

Yep. I was in Walmart today and their ammo shelves were pretty bare.

Did snag a couple boxes of Federal 9mm FMJ for $12 a box.

These were at GT Distributors in Austin a while back. They are oriented to Law Enforcement, but sell to the public. Here is their werbsite-http://www.gtdist.com/Default.aspx

Some prices might be LEO only, I really don’t know. They are also in Dallas and Rossville, GA.

Black powder weapons are highly underrated. The Navy Colt Model 1851 is a very powerful weapon. Buy 4 of them, they are hard to reload.

Yeah, the one up on 183. I also recently need something tiny to stick under my shirt. Ultra-light, polymer. Just a hair bigger than a Dillinger. Good delivery of .380.

After all the fancy brass is used up it comes down to the black powder weapons which have their advantage.

I love black powder shooting but in reality, a winner will be decided before all the fancy brass is used up.

The new black powder rifled barrels are anything but primitive. They are accurate and can throw a huge chunk of lead at moderate velocities. They can run your whole day. But, they go bang about once a minute. That is not good enough to win.

Try to buy a thousand rounds of 223 each month. Buy a couple hundred rounds of 30/30 and 9 MM. Have a large stock of 22LR and 22 Magnum. Better buy now and stock up before the feds cut off the supply or its too late to buy (like when SHTF). Will probably pick up a couple more guns but only in the calibers that I stock the ammo for.

Did you happen to see if they had the Perry Coyote .380? I want one of those if available. I did not see one the last time I was at a sporting goods store. My BIL has one and it is so small and compact.

Look the nastiness will start with the fancy brass case ammo. But if you live long enough, when the ammo runs out, it might come down to knives and clubs. The ramrod beats those hands down.

When you have zombies, but don't feel like spending a mint on them. Comes with 2 mags.

Me too. I got a performance bonus at work several weeks ago and used the money to better protect my family - I bought another firearm. Had it out to the range a couple of times. Need to get more ammo just in case things turn to excrement late this summer or early fall. Going to be stocking up on some foodstuffs and water with my tax refund.

All things that will get used, so I don't feel bad about the investment in preparedness.
