Al-Shabaab execute al-Amriki

The al-Qaeda-allied group al-Shabaab executed US-born jihadist Omar Hammami on April 5th, according to unconfirmed Somali media reports.

Hammami, known as Abu Mansour al-Amriki, said he feared for his life from other al-Shabaab leaders because of strategic and ideological differences in a statement released last month.

According to Somalia's Gedo Online, Hammami was the only one absent from a recent meeting attended by top al-Shabaab leaders in Baraawe.

Al-Shabaab reportedly hunted down Hammami after he left Marka in the Lower Shabelle region. He was reportedly beheaded on the spot and buried somewhere between Marka and Baraawe.

According to the report, the alleged execution angered some al-Shabaab leaders, who accused al-Shabaab leader Ahmed Abdi Godane of ordering the execution.

A group of foreign fighters and other top al-Shabaab members, including Fuad Mohamed Khalaf, also known as Fuad Shongoole, reportedly fled to the Galgala Mountains following the news of the execution.

Other leaders who left upon hearing the news include Hassan Dahir Aweys and Mukhtar Robow, Gedo Online reported.

Aweys recently accused other al-Shabaab leaders, including Godane, of shedding the blood of Muslims and murdering innocent civilians in the name of Islam. He described the actions of al-Shabaab's leaders as far removed from Islam.

Somali analysts say the al-Qaeda affiliated al-Shabaab group is on the verge of splintering due to deepening internal divisions exacerbated by recent military setbacks.

Kebab twitter account

check the one from March 19

All reports of #AlAmriki’s arrest are false and intended purely for propaganda purposes. Beware of such inaccurate reports

Guess that the rumors of his death got a head start.

Nothing to lose his head over, though.

It’s interesting that he briefly breaks into english. Who’s benefit is that for? His parents? Other english speaking jihadis?

Probably a message to other “foreigners” in Shabaab:

There have long been disputes within al Shabaab about how fanatic one should be and these arguments have caused the organization to split into factions. Since news of Amriki’s death began spreading, so have rumors of other al Shabaab leaders are fleeing, fearful that the hardliners that killed Amriki (by beheading him) will come looking for other moderates.

Some al Shabaab leaders have openly urged their followers to head north, to Puntland (self-governing northeast Somalia), where there are some areas, or at least villages, controlled by Islamic conservative gunmen. But most people in Puntland oppose al Shabaab and will fight to keep Islamic terrorists out.

The most fanatic al Shabaab men are foreigners, and they can either flee to Yemen (which over a hundred have done), or try to survive in Somalia. That is becoming increasingly difficult. Al Shabaab has made too many enemies, and the fanaticism of the foreign Islamic terrorists has made lots of enemies in Somalia. This has also caused an increasing number of desertions by less fanatic Somali members. Al Shabaab is definitely in decline, but it still has several hundred hardcore members, and several thousand supporters (many of them armed, although less and less enthusiastic.)

So much for the idea of Muslim Jihad “solidarity”.

Who is the most holy of the Muslim Jihad fighters? Ah, you disagree, behead the accursed apostate!

Interesting group of fanatics these Jihadist murderers.

“Shabaab kills American jihadist Omar Hammami and British fighter”

By BILL ROGGIO
September 12, 2013

SNIPPET: “Several Somalis in Bay province said that a large Shabaab force attacked Hammami and his small group of followers who were hiding out in a village near Dinsoor, the BBC reported. An Egyptian known as Khadap al Masri, who was with Hammami, is said to have surrendered to Shabaab forces.

Shabaab forces reportedly took the bodies of Hammami and al Britani from the scene of the attack. Shabaab has not officially claimed credit for the attack, but unnamed Shabaab officials are said to have confirmed Hammami’s death.

Hammami is said to have granted an Interview with Voice of America Somalia more than a week ago. In the interview, he said he had renounced his ties to Shabaab and al Qaeda but still considered himself a “terrorist.”

Hammami, who is better known as Abu Mansour al Amriki, is the most well-known foreign fighter in Somalia. Hammami occupied a prominent place in Shabaab’s propaganda arm. He also served as a recruiter, financier, and military commander. He was even seen with Shabaab’s top leaders at a public eulogy for slain al Qaeda emir and founder Osama bin Laden in May 2011. The US added him to the list of specially designated global terrorists for his ties to al Qaeda in July 2011 and offered a $5 million reward for information leading to his captured in March 2013.”
